Too high HR with chest strap

Recently I have started to get ~30 beats too high HR in the beginning of my exercise using HRM-Run chest strap. It lasts 5-10 minutes and then starts to decrease to correct level. I have put some water to the sensors but it doesn't help. Is this a problem in the strap or the watch? Sometimes I also get some strange 244 bpm readings which I guess is related to bad contact, but I don't think this is the same issue?

  • Had the same problem and for me that was the sign of the strap itself breaking down. After the strap replacement the HR is back to normal.

  • Have you tried to replace the battery? I usually have similar issue when the battery is needed to be replaced. And no, I can not rely on any battery level indication on the accessory level. It shows battery OK, but the HR readings is very bad (usually very high) even the running dynamics is fine.

  • I have had this for a year and ~3 exercises per week so I really hope that it's not breaking yet.. I haven't changed battery since the indicator is showing OK but if it's not reliable then I might do that.

  • It's the strap.  I had a HRM-Run that did this and it was in the process of dying.

  • Yeah, as has been mentioned by others, it could be the battery, the strap, or something else.  But it depends on which version of the HRM-Run you have as well.

If you have the newer red HRM-RUN with the non-replaceable strap, you might want to look for a tiny crack in the module with the battery cover removed.  It's fairly common to find a crack near one of the battery cover screw posts.  Once that happens, moisture gets in and slowly kills it.  This is something I have experienced personally, and it caused me to go back to the older HRM-RUN which has -removeable- black module with a white 'running man' on it.  Same metrics, but a lot better design (in my opinion).

If you have the older unit with the removable module, you can pop it off the strap and check the strap pad connections with a multimeter.  Don't want to mess with diagnosing it?  Just replace the strap for $15 or $20.  Many replacement straps from the big names will work with the older HRM-RUN just fine from what I've read.

If you have the newer one, I wish you all the best getting it replaced under warranty. :-)
