WhatsApp notifications working strangely

I have noticed that recently WhatsApp notifications are working so that if I get let's say 3 messages to the same thread and one minute between the messages, then I see always the first message in the watch repeated three times. Anyone else experiencing the same? Android phone (Oneplus 8 pro).

I'm not getting that but I often get a message that's already come up and I haven't checked come back up again. Also WhatsApp call notifications never work but then I get a missed call one come up after

Same thing for me but with text messages. On Android. I thought it was my pixel 3 acting up so (among other reasons) I upgraded to the pixel 5. But the same thing is happening. It's really annoying. Started maybe 8 weeks ago.

Previously it used to show the latest message that came in. So in the above example if there were 3 messages in a thread my watch would show me each in order as they come in. Now, if I haven't looked at the messages in the thread yet on my phone the watch just keeps giving me the original notification all 3 times. It's incredibly annoying. Because I already saw the original notification on my watch the first time it came in. If no rush to respond then i don't open my phone. But then when the next message comes to my phone my watch just shows me the first one. Which then makes me go and look at the thread in my phone because the watch just constantly shows the original message repeatedly.
