Hi, UK hill walker here, looking at getting a Fenix6pro, but confused about the mapping - am I right in thinking it will not support GB Ordnance Survey maps , and that maps it will support do not include contours?

Try an alternative map source.....
All these are free..... And optimised for Garmin devices.... Great for hiking /city etc...
The link below, just choose your tiles and your away, this map is good for…
How do you decide which maps to use?
I have Talkytoaster, Garmin Europe Topoactive and Openmtbmap
I end up using mainly Garmin's maps because they have the popularity routing + I don't find I make use…
Here is a tip for you :

You can add any maps you want in the right format...
If you want contours, just download a transparent contours map for the UK.... Talkie Toaster as mentioned is a great hiking map... I'll give you links to some more hang on.....

The link below, just choose your tiles and your away, this map is good for street routes, but has contour maps, I'd suggest just uploading the transparent contour map from here....if in Europe.
http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl
If in Europe try these to.... (these are extremely detailed, but are great maps to hike /ride/route to, if your interested.
Next link below is to Frikart.... Brilliant map.. My map of choice, very detailed.. Transparent contour and trail lines/ maps built-in etc.... and transparent trail maps to overlay on other maps.
This one below is a great map to... You can change the map type to "small"(optimised for less clutter with super contrast) for your watch... Just follow the instructions....
Ps... Remember to rename your map's before you upload them to your watch, as you need to distinguish between them....
Any more help,.... Just give me a shout by replying here...
All the best... and happy sporting : -)

An additional link below for biking maps.
There is also a FREE British Isles map on my site, complete with 10m contours and even though it is not as detailed as my TT50 style map, it is still more detailed than the Garmin supplied map on the Fenix.
Yes it's a great map... your free version is a great map also. I've been using both of them since 2017 on many hikes....
: -)
Thank you everyone for your advice, this all looks do able :) Now need to look for loose change behind the sofa cushions to help save up and buy the watch!
You'll love it!...Happy sofa money hunting : -)

I guess it depends on the situation, I like options lol.... which map is best for a certain area etc...
I copy activities like hike and navigate...
I use the Garmin basemap with all these combinations below....
Hike1 Garmin Maps with additional transparent trail and contours maps.
Hike 2 Frikart
Hike 3 Freizeitkarte with additional trail and contours maps...
Hike 4 is Talkietoaster TT50 paid version.
Hike 5 Frikart with additional Garmin Satalite imagery...
I also like to add /contribute to the OSM map myself, to make the maps better for me and others benefit to of course , it's easy to become a member, and learn how to add to OSM maps yourself, and improve them for your area so you always have the best maps to hike to etc...
All the best.
: -)
Thanks... I contribute to OSM as well....
