Training status - no status

Ok. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. My watch stopped reporting training status on Oct 3 and as a result, is no longer updating VO2 max. Training status says " run outdoors with heart rate twice to see your status". I've had 5 outdoor runs, all over 40 minutes since then Oct 3.  Everything is recorded on the watch as well as Garmin connect. But it's not being pulled down into training status. Anyone run into this issue? HR zone on runs is in zone 5.

  • For me everything was solved with the last update, I hope it helps.

  • Hi, I had this problem. I adjusted my settings so I only used GPS. Do not use GPS + Glonass (or Galileo). I think it took after this 2 or 3 runs to record a training status. Since then I believe Garmin has updated the GPS software and mine works now with any GPS setting. do you have the latest software update 15.20 (97f96aa). I have a Fenix 6X

  • I think your GPS settings change, and the training status returning, are not related to each other. It wouldn't make any sense for the GPS setting to have any effect on training status (unless your had GPS turned off entirely).

Your training status probably fixed itself because you recorded 2-3 more runs. Pretty sure it would have fixed itself regardless of your GPS setting.

I've been using GPS+Glonass for 18 months, using almost every firmware version from 3.0 to 15.2, and have not had this issue. The only time I lose my training status is when I go for an extended time without recording a GPS run. And since yours fixed itself after you recorded more GPS runs, I will venture a guess that is what happened to you as well.

Sorry mate, but this is most definitely a red herring. As noted, the GPS setting you use has no impact on the training status. Training status is a function of the amount, frequency, and intensity of exercise you do.

  • red herring

Thanks, I couldn't think of the proper term for it ;)  just because one thing happened, and then another thing happened, doesn't mean thing A caused thing B.

  • I was running 5-6 times a week outdoors for several weeks with it working fine then it just stopped with the same amount of weekly runs. Speaking with Garmin directly they identified the problem with the software after sending them screenshots and downloading my data. the problem related to the GPS chipset and it only related to certain Garmin watches (I believe new ones such as the fenix 6). Garmin advised me themselves they would be providing a software fix which they did. I'm guessing you don't have a fenix 6.

  • No need to reply to my suggested fixes, mine is fixed, please help others with suggested resolutions. I am afraid you are the Red Herring. Speaking with Garmin directly they identified the problem with the software after sending them screenshots and downloading my data. the problem related to the GPS chipset and it only related to certain Garmin watches (I believe new ones such as the fenix 6). I understand that training status is a function of the amount, frequency, and intensity of exercise you do however on your Garminit is indirectly related to the GPS software, without GPS you will not get a training status, hope you can understand that. Try turning GPS off and you will lose your training status even though they are not related.

  • without GPS you will not get a training status, hope you can understand that.

Of course you won't but that's not what you said.

    What you said was...

Do not use GPS + Glonass (or Galileo).

which is very different. I have only used GPS+GLONASS for as long as I've had my F6 Solar Pro. Your suggestion that the problem is related to using auxiliary satellite constellations such as GPS+GLONASS/Galileo remains the red herring.

I am aware that some people had issues with training status not updating but I was not one of them. I do enough regular activity that I always have had training status updates and continue to do so. So for me, any changes they have recently made to GPS have not affected in anyway at all my training status. It's still there, just like it has always been using GPS+GLONASS.

  • Many thanks everyone for advice and thoughts.

Fenix 6 solar, running the latest public release software.

I'll do a few more runs and see if training status turns up, if not I'll contact Garmin direct.

    Cheers

    Jez

  • Same problem. VO2max updates and is the same in watch and app. No training status after I had to reset my watch after the battery drain fiasco. Now I'm on day 9 and no data. I've done 6 runs since then and a long cycle ride. Nothing.
