Activity type automatically recorded correctly instead of "other"

Dear Garmin users,

I am new in Garmin world and I still don't understand how to tweak properly my Fenix 6.

I have created several activities, amongst others: moutain bike, road bike, walk, Kitesurf. When I use these activities, only few of them are recorded properly with the correct name. The others are recorded as "other".

Mountain bike, walk are recorded properly. For Road bike, Kitesurf, I need to edit the record and manually select the correct activity in the list.

Is there any way to set correctly the settings to avoid this manual correction?

Thank you for your advices

  • Why did you make those activities, when the watch already has all of those activities built-in natively?

To answer your question, though, no, unfortunately there is currently no way to change the type of activity that it gets saved as in Connect.

But if you use the built-in activities, or copies of them, then it should save as the correct activity type in Connect. I'm guessing you built your own activities from scratch for some reason? That's why they're getting saved as "other". Try using the built-in activities for Bike, MTB, Walk, Kite Surf, etc, instead of building your own from scratch. It sounds like you already are using the native activities for MTB and Walk, so just do the same for Bike and Kitesurf now. Using the built-in activities ensures that the correct data is getting recorded, the sensors are correctly calibrated for that type of activity, and it gets saved properly as the right type of activity in Connect. When you build your own activity from scratch, the watch just uses generic sensor calibration and doesn't exactly know what it should record to Connect. That should solve your issue.

  • Thank you for your reply

I am not sure how I created the "kitesurf" setting. When I search in the list available, it seems this sport does not exist in the list of built-in activities...

For road bike, I used "cycling" built-in activity, because "road bike" was not existing in the list (I use French version, "cyclisme sur route" does not exist built-in). This activity is recorded nevertheless "cycling", and then I need always to manually change it to road cycling.

  • This is the official Garmin way. So there is no way todo without manual work. :(

  • My mistake, I thought I remembered seeing that Kitesurf was recently added as an activity by Garmin, but I don't see it on my watch, so I think I was mistaken about that.

"Cycling" in Garmin lingo is the same thing as "road bike". The Cycling (or "Bike" activity in english watches) assumes you are doing road cycling. I'm not sure why Connect offers both options, but really there's no reason for you to manually change it - "Road Biking" and "cycling" are synonymous and treated exactly the same either way, both in Connect and elsewhere.
