Device stuck, did soft restart, now stuck on green triangle. What to do?

My Garmin Fenix 6 Pro was stuck on 16:08 yesterday. It was unresponsive to button presses. Northing out of the ordinary has happened with the watch recently, was just chilling in the lounge when I noticed it wasn't responding.

I searched to find that holding the top left "light" button would perform a soft reset. This worked, the screen when off. I restarted it with the same button. It showed a green triangle on screen. I left the watch on charge.

The watch _still_ has the green triangle this morning. I've performed another soft restart to no avail. I've also tried Garmin Express to see if it can recognise the watch but that doesn't even detect the watch.

I'm unsure of what to do now. I'm also unsure of how I actually contact a Garmin representive to respolve this.

The watch is 6 months old.

  • Forcing a Garmin to mount as a drive

Ensure the battery is charged before completing the steps below.

    1. Disconnect the Garmin from the computer and ensure the Garmin is powered off
    2. Press and hold Start/Stop
Note: Press and hold GPS if you have an Instinct or Instinct Tactical
    3. Plug the Garmin into the computer
    4. Wait until the Garmin is recognized by the computer, it may take up to 45 seconds for the device to be recognized as a drive
      • If prompted, install USB device drivers
    5. Release Start/Stop
Note: Release GPS if you have an Instinct or Instinct Tactical

The watch should now function normally.

1The D2 Delta Series, fenix 5 Plus Series, fenix 6 Series, quatix 6 Series, MARQ Collection, and tactix Delta will not mount as a drive on a Mac computer. They can still be used with Garmin programs and applications on a Mac.

  • That unfortunately hasn't worked. I held the "light" button until the screen went off. Then followed your steps.

It continues to show the green triangle.

The computer never recognises the Fenix 6. It actually shows up in Device Manager as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

  • It sounds like your watch has a hardware failure I'm afraid.

I would be contacting Garmin support, I don't think we can help you on the forums.

  • Power off the watch.

Power on then immediately press and hold top right and bottom right together.

Release top right on first beep, release bottom right on the next beep.

See if that sorts it out. If not contact Garmin Support unless you have already done so.

BTW, not heard of a green triangle before. Are you sure it's not blue?

  • Enables the watch to be reset to factory setting when you can't access the watch.

  • Have you managed to get it back to life? How?

  • Worked like a charm, holding the two right buttons down.  Thanks for the tip!

  • this works great thank you

  • Cheers mate, got a fenix 7, only a few days old and got stuck on boot screen. Thought it was dead, that trick worked and saved me a fortune, thanks mate
