Body battery and everything else non activity is kind of useless

I sleep around 5 to 8 hours. Sleep tracking on watch says stress too high score around 20. however it's always like this? always get recommended deep and REM sleep.

Then I wake and start my stressful job.

And body battery recharges...

Please explain this to a non medical person.

  • Post a pic of your sleep report. It looks like you aren't getting a good sleep and thus why the body batter is starting off so low in the morning

  • It always says stress caused a bad sleep, unless there's an activity then it says strenuous activity caused it.

I don't sleep well, but is working getting me more rest than sleeping?

    Wouldn't have thought so!

  • Depends.  But if your sleep bites so does your recovery.

  • I can't make sense of my current BB reading.

Overnight I usually recharge (typically from 40-60 at bedtime) to 85-100 by morning. Last night, the sleep monitor claims I got 8 hours flat of sleep (the total never rings true with me), with 1:04 deep and 1:27 REM. Stress overnight was 20-25, higher than normal for whatever reason (as I type it's around 5).

My BB barely recharged overnight, going from 58 at midnight to only 65 by morning. In the three hours since, it hasn't changed (slightly down, slightly up). Also odd, my resting HR was a high 59 this morning but has since dropped to 56 now. Typically it's in the low 50s.

I've only once had such a no-gain sleep with high resting HR, and that after a night of almost no sleep. So I'm left wondering how is it possible to have a decent sleep and yet the BB remains essentially flat.

After seeing the numbers, I decided against a morning cycle. When I went outside, the smell of smoke (wildfires in the region) was so strong it vetoed any temptation to reverse that decision.

  • My Body Battery calculation is kinda' scary accurate for me.  I often wake up naturally right around the time it hits 100.  and- when i'm felling like crap, it agrees.

I think it's normally helpful to look at the graph of stress overlaid on BB, rather than BB alone - it definitely helps understand what is going on.

Stress can remain high overnight due to illness, stress in other parts of your life, alcohol, etc. Or just the time it takes to recover from an especially hard workout.

Although I'd be curious to know whether your subconscious smelled the smoke overnight and responded to that as a stressful situation. Not sure that that question is actually answerable, just a possibility that occured to me.

Back in the day before watches told us how we slept, when checking RHR in the morning showed increases above normal it tended to suggest coming down with something or perhaps overtrained. However, this would be checked over a couple of days to be certain it wasn't just an anomaly. It could be said that the elevated RHR and the BB taken together would suggest something might be happening with regards to your health. Keep an eye on how the data tracks over the next couple of days and see what happens.

Perhaps verify the RHR manually in the morning.

And of course ensure you are wearing the watch correctly to get good heart rate.

  • Ensure you are wearing the watch snugly.

Also, ensure you are not eating or ingesting alcohol or large quantities of alcohol directly before sleep. When i down a bag of junkfood with a couple of brewskys with a late movie, and go directly to bed, not only is my rest quality horrendous, body battery starts charging 3-5hrs later, and most often than not, will charge during the day too (as im relaxed on the chair. Though my job is devops/app support and mostly stressful.

Outside of above which I think is accurate, all other times seems in line with how i feel.

Do make sure watch is clean and snug.

  • Good points. I've since bounced back into normal ranges. Whatever it was seems to have passed.
