Navigation - elevation to next waypoint ?

Hello all,
I was going to send an e-mail to the beta team to ask about this feature, which if I'm right is still missing from the navigation data fields.
Just wondering if I'm the only one interested in this feature ? Idea is to have a dedicated screen display info on the name, remaining distance & elevation to the next assistance area on long distance mountain trails.
Cheers !

  • Huh, that's weird, I could've sworn we did have that datafield but I just checked, and we definitely don't. I agree, that would be a very valuable datafield to have.

Either a dedicated datascreen like you suggested, or even just a simple datafield that shows vertical distance to next waypoint. We have a vertical distance to destination field already, so it wouldn't be hard for them to make, they could just copy and modify that one.

Especially if your course involves multiple summits, it would be nice to know the vertical distance to the current summit, not just the vertical distance back to your car.

  • I agree that should be interesting but at the moment (I did not tried with latest version but I did not read any mention in the changelog) distance to the next waypoint is not working so unfortunately also ascent to the next point will not work :(

Why? Because Garmin is using navigation features from watches that did not have maps like Fenix 3 and 935 with a map in the background instead of taking navigation features form Edge series and for the Fenix 6 the next waipoint Is the next turn. Are you interested to have ascent/elevation to the next turn?

I would be happy to hear that in the maintime they solved it but until then I think that Fenix 6 navigation features have only one leg :(

  • Hello, reviving an old thread. I am a mountain runner and would like the same feature for my watch (enduro 2), to be able to tell the ascent and descent to the next waypoint/coursepoint. Similarly to the distance to the next waypoint, it would be very valuable information to manage pace and the mind.

    Thanks.

  • me sumo a la peticion lo veo muy bueno ese campo y también poner alrededor del mapa otros campos en circulo externo

  • Hi Gabynet, what I find strange, but it gives hope for a solution, is that other devices already have this field. For example, a quick search on the web, shows that the Garmin Edge 1030 can show "Ascent to Next". It comes up in the user manual: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/edge1030/EN-US/GUID-1BF915A2-AAE3-4B67-83EB-54A450FCB1A5-homepage.html

Who can we contact to get this field added to other devices? I have an enduro 2, and it would make the watch a lot more useful for longer activities broken down by coursepoint. Even a "Descent to Next" would be very helpful for similar reasons.
