Cannot find any golf cources

Hi,

I have a Fenix 5 and I am now trying to help my father-in-law with his brand new Fenix 6. The problem is the Golf setup.

When I start a golf round on my Fenix 5 I just click Golf and "start round" and I get the closest nearby courses in a list to pick from. On his Fenix 6 he only get the courses he has downloaded in the Garmin Connect. This means that he always has to search a for the course he want's to play, download it to the unit and after that he will be able to use it.

Reading the manual it says something vaguely that I have to download a course before I play it, but the described way above can't be the correct way, right? It should be able to find the nearest golf course without me preparing for it and download it in advance?

Anybody with an idea on what's going on..?

  • On a 6 Pro (I have a 6X Pro Solar) the worldwide courses would all be on the watch, along with the regional maps for the continent of purchase

I'm guessing here, but if he has a 6 and not a 6 Pro then it will not come with maps included and will not have the space to store unlimited maps. Therefore you must cherry pick the golf courses you need and download them in advance. How else could they appear on the watch?

  • Correct, no Pro, just a Fenix 6S.

I see, there's a storage issue. I thought all courses was stored by default on the watch, like on my Fenix 5 (probably a Pro then), or like on my previous Approach watches.

Should have helped him with a better research before buying then...  Disappointed

    Thanks!

  • If it's brand new is it too late to return for exchange?

  • I will look into it!  Thumbsup

    Thank you for your help!

  • if it is a normal 5 or 6 model, you will not have the courses stored on the watch.

Via Garmin connect you have to download the courses to your Phone Then you will be able to pick the one you need when you are at the golf course.

If you want to pick directly from watch, then 5X , 5 plus or 6 Pro , X or Saphire is needed (those have all stored on the watch).

  • If the course isn't on the Fenix, try connecting to your computer and use the Gamin Express to upload and update maps.  Trying to use the Gamin Connect didn't work for me, but once I updated the maps on Garmin Express (computer) via the USB cord for the watch, the courses were there.  Hope this helps

  • If the watch is a Fenix 5X, Fenix 5 Plus series, or Fenix 6 Pro series, over 42,000+ Golf courses come on those watches and they can be updated using Garmin Express.

If you own a Fenix 5S, Fenix 5, or a Fenix 6 series (non-pro) version, you can download the course needed through the Connect Mobile APP and use the watches Golf APP while golfing that course.
