Fenix 3 HR gps not working

Hi guys,

sorry if I post an issue here relevant to Fenix 3, but there is no another place for it (no group for Fenix 3 ...).

I can't connect GPS anymore with my Fenix 3 since few months. If I start an activity with GPS, the GPS bar stays red and it doesn't connect to satellites. Before now, I connected GPS with saltellites in few seconds without any problem.

I tried everything (I suppose):

- with or without Glonass

- soft reset (off / on)

- sync with Connect app

- sync with Garmin Express

- hard reset (factory restore)

- connected with PC, deleted folder Remotesw in Garmin, disconnected, connected again and synched with Garmin Express; Garmin Express re-builds Remotesw folder with EPO.BIN file inside

Nothing. GPS does not work.

Software version in the watch: 5.60

Screen 3.70

GPS 3.30

BLE/ANT 3.60

wifi 2.40

CIQ 1.4.5

WHR 2.90

After all these attempts, EPO status in the watch is "Set time".

Please note that when you can no longer acquire GPS on your Fenix 3/HR watch, the full reset noted above is the last resort step that you can try. Also, all of the troubleshooting steps noted by this original…

I am really sorry you cannot get your GPS to function again on your Fenix 3 HR watch. You can reach out to your regional Garmin Outdoor Product Support team to see if there is a rebuilt Fenix 3…

I have exactly the same issue. Fenix 3 HR just under two years old. About 3 weeks ago GPS just stopped working. Whenever i try to start an activity I get the first part of the red ring around the outside…

Try to connect the F3 with a pc and delete the EPO.BIN and after that sync with Garmin Express to load the current EPO.BIN

If you have had this problem for months and gone through all the troubleshooting you noted, it is NOT an epo Issue IMO. Try going into diagnostic mode which might show a hardware problem. Just google Fenix 3 diagnostic mode for the steps. Good luck.

Thank you Subra. I tried to delete the EPO.BIN connecting with a PC and then sync with Garmin Express. EPO.BIN file is reloaded but GPS still does not work. Any other idea? Thank you. A.

Thank you razmichael. I did not know the diagnostic mode.. I tried to access and I can enter in the diagnostic mode and also in the GPS page. But, I did not understand how to test the GPS: pressing Light button I can switch between "GPS Test" and "GPS Full", and then? What do I have to do to test GPS? Thank you. A.

The installed SW 5.60 is very old. The last version is SW 9.60 from July 15, 2020 .

The installed GPS 3.30 is from February 2, 2011.

I'd try to install the latest available SW for F3. But there is no garantee whether this helps.

After all these attempts, EPO status in the watch is "Set time".

The status "Set time" seems strange. Have you tried to set date and time manually on the F3?

I've tried soft reset, hard reset, diagnostic mode, deleting EPO.bin, syncing via PC and phone, GLONASS on and off and still no joy. SW version 5.6 which Garmin Connect says is current for Fenix 3HR. GPS verions 3.30, display 3.7, BLE/ANT 3.6, Wifi 2.4. WHR 2.9. I suspect a hardware failure of something like the GPS antenna. In diagnostic mode on the GPS screen I only get zeros on the top line regardless of whether it's on TEST or FULL, which I suspect means it's not picking anything up.

Have you tried sending it to warranty and see what they say about it?
