Sleep tracking disaster...

Got my new Fenix 6s pro solar a week ago, did all the updates and after a week or so wearing it all the time. I must say the sleep tracking is just awful (Cant tell if I'm sleeping yet or not , nor if I wake up or not and of course no NAP integration). I mean, how on earth a Xiaomi (30$) band does a better job (Not talking about Fitbit or a Polar watch) a Xiaomi Mi band 4... this is unacceptable! (Its a 700$ smart watch for god sake!) FIX IT!  and trim the fat from you (Garmin Connect) all the useless insights that we have...(Don't let me start on those ones) GET THE BASICS RIGHT FIRST!

CORRECT HR/ CORRECT SLEEP TRACKING/ CORRECT GPS. Metrics and insights comes later...

  • Calm down and bring the watch back. Garmin hase the worts sleep tracker on market, right. I dont know whats wrong, because its the Firstbeatanalysis. Forgett Naps....you will never get that on your Device.

GPS is, im compare to Huawei (Watch GT 1 and 2e) or an Amazfit perfect. Sometimes you are Offtrack, but the distance is right.
On huawei you will never get a strava integration and so on.

Im on a 430€ 08/15 Fenix 6. Im not happy with some parts, but overall its fine. Also if you train with a chest strap, its fine.

You can try a suunto or a Coros. Try Desfit or Rainmaker on Youtube.

  • As it was motioned on the title, My big issue right now is the sleep tracking feature. Its a shame for a top tier 700$ watch. HR/GPS are manageable but could be better. And yes I'm using a H10 strap.

  • But it dosent make sense to write it here. Open a support case, but live with that.
Im back after a long time (Huawei, Amazfit, Samsung, Honor.....). Much better Sleep Tracking, much worst other things.

If you need sleep tracking as a prio 1 feature try a withings sleep.-thing.

My point of view: Garmin sell cheap hardware for prices that are to high. Thats it. You have to know what to do with your line of sight.

For some people the sleep tracking doesn't seem to work well.  I haven't heard anyone propose a good reason why that is.  Since 10.x for me it's been 95% accurate, the only real misses and I can't fault it are when I wake up but don't move around.  It sometimes picks up on me being awake but sometimes flags it as REM.

I wake up 2 to 4 times a night so I have a lot of opportunities to validate the detections.

But if the issues you're having aren't acceptable then return it or sell it if the vendor won't accept the return and get something else?  Why put up with the frustration of dealing with it?

    CORRECT HR/ CORRECT SLEEP TRACKING
    Metrics and insights comes later...

What are HR and sleep tracking if not metrics?

I must say the sleep tracking is just awful

Garmin isn't in the business of sleep tracking.  They started off with navigation and made their way into sports tracking.  If sleep tracking is important to you try a Fitbit.

this is unacceptable! (Its a 700$ smart watch for god sake!)

No, it's not a $700 smart watch.  It's a $700 sports watch which works great.  If you're looking for a smart watch, try Apple.

    this is unacceptable

Because it doesn't do everything you want it to do perfectly?  Show me a manufacturer that does everything at an A+ level.  Every one of them has their specialty and their weakness.  You need to decide what's important to you and find a manufacturer that does what you want well and go with them.

  • I've had my 6X Pro Solar since December. I also bought an Oura Ring, which is a dedicated sleep tracker, at the same time. By and large the agreement between the two has been reasonable, certainly in terms of start and end times.

More detailed analysis of light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep and waking moments tends to differ a bit more, but the general pattern of sleep is kind of similar, usually.

When I first got the watch the first thing I did was to update everything and I started using the watch on firmware 5.00. Prior to the switch to Firstbeat metrics the sleep data was in general agreement, as described above. With the initial switch to Firstbeat the Fenix made an utter mess of sleep data. It was total garbage. But it did not take long - a few weeks - for Garmin to get things back on track. Now, on 11.10 I am once again satisfied with the sleep data, night after night.

With only two devices to compare it is impossible to say which one is more correct when they do disagree, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If I did, I'm sure both devices would let me know. ;-)

  • Welcome to Garmin, plenty would agree with all you said.

It’s the worst smart watch I’ve used for sleep tracking and heart rate, things that should be the basics for any smart watch.

Fenix has a lot of potential but it seems their developers are ordinary at best.

Don’t worry about the Garmin fanboys.

  • Rest is a very important part of sport tracking, be realistic. If you do not rest in a correct wayt you wont improve.

  • I don’t need a watch to tell me how well I’ve slept. I also know what I need to do to have a good night’s sleep. That said it’s interesting to see information that relates to how I feel in the morning. AFAIK the information I get matches how I’ve slept and how long I’ve been awake but I have no idea If the phases of sleep reported are real or otherwise. Apart from spending time in a sleep lab with proper equipment who can truly verify any sleep phases from a wrist watch or indeed any consumer device? Can anyone? All I really know is the time I turn my light off and the time I wake up in the morning.

This from last night. My sleep time is set to start at 2200 and finish at 0700. I have Battery Saver enabled during that time. Last night I was in bed at 2145 and reading before I turned the light off. Awake early because my wife had an early start. Looks fine to me.
