Fenix 6X Pro lag in 11.10 - "Improved off wrist detection. (Requires 7.12 Sensor Hub)"

Hello guys. made an account just to post this here as I find really weird, and maybe someone can shed some light on it.

I just bought a new Fenix 6X Pro, went through the setup as usual, connected it to the PC and updated everything, including software version to 11.10.

My issue now is that sometimes (very frequently) the watch lags when pressing the start button, going through widgets, holding the up button to get into the settings aswell as holding the light button to get into the menu.

To be more specific, this happens while using stock watchfaces such as the default one, so as an example, from the watchface screen I press the Start button and after about 3 seconds it goes into the activity screen. If I go back to the watchface screen and press the Start button again, it goes into the activity screen almost instantly. This almost looks like the watch goes into a 'deep sleep'

I tried multiple hard resets, but nothing helped. This happens randomly and frequently, 3 seconds is a long time when you are staring at the watch and waiting, needless to say that if I am using a custom watchface the delay is much much longer.

A while ago I had another 6X Pro, which I sold, that was on firmware 10.10 but had no such issues except the regular bit of delay with custom watchfaces.

The only way I can reproduce this without waiting for the watch to do it by itself is: do a sync with the Garmin Connect on my mobile (Android) and after it syncs, press the Start button or hold the up button to get into settings, takes a long time.

Did not pay much attention to this while playing with it with it's 'out of the box firmware' but I think I would have noticed this if it had it, I think the firmware was 9.7 something.

Anyone else experiencing this behaviour ? or maybe has some suggestions for me to try other than factory reset.

Thank you in advance!

UPDATE: We believe this issue is caused by one of the improvements in one beta towards 11.10: "Changes made from version 10.10 to 10.75:
Improved off wrist detection. (Requires 7.12 Sensor Hub)"

Basically the watch thinks you are not wearing it, after about ~3-5 minutes of putting it on, or pressing a button.

This results in the watch going into a low power mode, that causes lag on button presses/long presses and asks for PIN again when using Garmin Pay (even though you just entered the PIN and did not take the watch off)

Users that have custom watchfaces that update the stats every second or on wrist turn/wrist raise will not notice this issue fast, because the watch sensors are pinged and it thinks it is on your wrist.

Custom watch faces have their own lag, which we know about, so don't mistake between that and default watch face which should have no lag as it usually was.

There could be other issues caused by this and are unknown at this point.

Want to say thanks to those that replied here and helped clarify this issue. I hope Garmin fixes it.

I think it's related to that 'off wrist improvement' they made in one of the betas, maybe some sensor is bugged. I see the default watchfaces are no longer updating on wrist raise/turn and i think they used to. So i started using custom watchfaces, that do update like that stats on wrist raisr, and they have noticeably less lag then the default ones, which is the opposite of how it should be...weird

I don't have any 3rd party watch faces on mine. It still lags. For me it's when I press and hold the light button for the menu or the up button for the settings. This only happens though when I haven't used the watch for a couple of minutes. If I have been working on the watch and then press those buttons, there is no lag. Also finding that the Garmin Pay functionality is faulty. It requests my pin even if I'vs just made a payment 10 minutes before that. Suppose that's for another forum discussion

it is actually tied to this, because Garmin Pay works off the HR sensor that it uses to detect if it's on wrist. I will try Garmin Pay too, forgot about that, otherwise you have the same thing as on mine. I had to install custom ones just to get rid of part of the lag, I use ShN TxD, this seems to ping the HR sensor on wrist raise/turn for some reason

Ok, I tried Garmin Pay. Entered the pin, made a payment. Waited for about 15 minutes, went into the menu again to try Garmin Pay, of course the lag is there, and it asks for pin again. Garmin Pay should ask for pin once every 24h or when you take your watch off, which I didn't. This proves that it screwed something with sensors

Yeah, it works sometimes (not asking the pin), but most of the time it doesn't. I also have noticed it with smart notifications. The watch will vibrate (smart notification) and when I look down I have to wait for the message to come through. I've never had this issue before.

Looking at your update it seems you're saying it's a software issue. Shouldn't all Fenix 6x users experience it then? There seems to be only a few?

I would have expected more people to have it. The only thing I could think of is perhaps custom watchfaces...if I am using one I only have these issues maybe once or twice a day, but if I am using one of the default watchfaces I get these issues once every 5 minutes. I believe and hope it is a software issue, otherwise that would be bad. It' weird, just like the battery drain issues posted with 11.10, I have no abnormal battery drain but others do. "Improved off wrist detection" could be a coincidence and we have sensor hardware issues, but I really hope not. I wish I could downgrade to 10.10 sensor hub 7.11 and all the previous versions of WHR, GPS etc but I cannot find these ones. That way I would know if one of the sensor updates screwed something, particularly the WHR one

Well, I had these issues when I first switched on the watch. I think it was running version 5 or 6 of the software then. That tells me it may not be a software issue.
