Heart rate broadcast

I just buy a TACX Neo 2T and want to use my Fenix 6 Sapphire to broadcast the Heart Rate to the app (Zwift or TACX), but:

- If I broadcast the HR it stuck at the first value the optical sensor read

- If I use virtual run to broadcast HR it doesn't display the heart rate (only - - is visible on the watch). When I close the activity, on the watch face the heart rate takes a couple of seconds to be displayed.

Does anyone find a solution or this is a bug present on the 11.10?

If I did any other activity, HR works perfectly (also with HRM-run)

Thanks

  • I don't know if this will work for you, but do not use the recently introduced "indoor trainer" feature of the watch. This seems to break function of the WHR and broadcast of WHR. Since Zwift will be controlling the trainer resistance (I assume), just pair the trainer to the watch as a power meter, cadence sensor and speed/distance. Do not pair the indoor trainer at all. Reject it if it offers itself on the watch.

I'm not speaking from experience, but basing this on other similar threads. I use a chest strap, but also have the indoor trainer connection disabled anyway as Zwift takes care of trainer control.

p.s. I have a Neo 2 and everything works as it should, apart from Zwift crashing repeatedly since the last update.

p.p.s. With the 2T you may find that you need to enable ANT+ function from within the Tacx utility app in order for the watch to see the sensors. The indoor trainer connection might make this unnecessary, but if it's at the expense of WHR then it's not really a solution.

  • You are right... it seems that it break the connection of the HR to the App if the Smart Trainer is also connected to the Fenix.

I remove the Smart Trainer to the device list of Fenix and now the Heart Rate is correctly managed if used with Virtual Running App.

    I will do a session....

  • If it suits you it should be possible to use the indoor cycling app and still broadcast WHR to Zwift. At least that way you will get some more practical metrics recorded on Garmin Connect. Just go to the WHR sensor settings and scroll to broadcast during activity and enable it.

  • Yes, but Broadcasting heart rate works only via ANT+ and not via BLE. So only option is use virtual run for this.

  • That assumes that Bluetooth is the chosen method of connection.

For PC or Mac users an ANT+ dongle might be used in place of Bluetooth. ANT+ is also supported by Zwift on Android. Many Samsung devices support ANT+ natively, without a dongle, and Zwift can work with that rather than Bluetooth.

Personally I use ANT+ and wear a chest strap, so I don't have any of this ball ache.

  • I found workaround. Use Virtual Run and connect watch in Zwift to heart rate, then cancel and use broadcast heart rate. Now it works via Bluetooth

  • I think Garmin must introduce it officially. Broadcast heart rate via BLE.

  • I also got this to work with the Virtual Run workaround.

Maybe one other thing I found out with Zwift that may be interesting to others:

I first did not get any HR on Zwift Cycling even though the fenix6s was recognized as a BT HR device. It did not display any HR or said "no signal".

Then I switched to the Run screen of Zwift and tried it there and it worked directly. After that I switched back and since then it works fine all the time in cycling.

Feels like there are still some reliability issues with establishing a connection on the fenix or it is on the Zwift side.

Nevertheless, I can now broadcast the heartrate via BT fine, either with optical or with a ANT+ strap connected to the watch.
