Reboot when I press down button.

After updating to 11.10, when I press "down", my Fenix 6x restarts or freezes.
Is not a hardware problem, because there is one exception - if I go to the Controls Menu, the down button there does not crash.
I don't have third-party widgets or apps and haven't changed any settings for a long time. This started after the 11.10 update.
What can I do? I am extremely disappointed. I had Fenix3 for 5 years before that, and there were no problems with them all the time.

You can try a factory reset or roll back to the previous firmware 10.10 and then let it update again to see if that resolves the issue.   As with any electronic device, sometimes an software update messes up for any number of reasons so if that's the root cause then reinstalling the update might resolve it for you.

It's important to note that this will reset the watch to a like new status and you'll lose any data on it and have to set it back up with whatever custom changes you've made.

Your data will be retained in Garmin Connect/Mobile though although you will need to delete the watch out of garmin mobile and re-pair it.  With 11.10 I've heard you cannot have it paired with multiple mobile devices so if you have it paired with more than 1 mobile device you'll need to delete it from all of them to pair it back up with the one you want to use primarily.

  • As a developer, I know that not every electronic device has problems after updates. There are problems with poorly designed or manufactured devices.
I know about a hard reset/roll back, but what next?
Do this after a firmware update, maybe every week, every day, after every workout?

Yesterday after several reboots I connected Fenix to PC and got watch freeze (2 tries).
Well, today I tried to connect it to the PC again, my Fenix was successfully charged up to 100% (it was about 50 before charging).
After charging, after a few days of pain and frustration due to a non-working button, the button works as if nothing had happened.

I don't understand what is going on.
OMG, where is the team that developed the firmware for Fenix 3? Let them help juniors who develop software for Fenix 6.

  • Sure it wasn't something like the button getting stuck down?  If it suddenly started working again without changing the software, and no one else is reporting it after updating to 11.10, it's likely something specific to your unit.  That makes it sound more like a hardware issue.  Probably total coincidence it happened just after the upgrade if it was just your device.  Maybe it's a mechanical thing where something was short circuiting when the button was getting pressed. Easy to speculate, but no way of knowing for sure now that it's working again.

I'd probably call Garmin support, if for no other reason to get it documented as an issue.  That way if it happens again after the warranty expires, you have a record that it's a problem that started while still under warranty.

  • At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but I found that in the Controls Menu the button works fine. Maybe, of course, these are all coincidences, but this doesn't make me happy.
I'll keep my eyes open. If this happens again, I'll contact support.

  • Ironically, the buttons are binary.  They trigger or they don't.  If the result of a button press was a restart---my conclusion would be that the button worked.  Just not how I expected.  So, for me, the root is in software.  Since there is a common 11.10 package for all (mostly), then I would suspect a download corruption.  I would reset to factory and rebuild.  Save your data to the server account first.  The rebuild sounds awful but it is fairly benign.
