Why no separate activities for hiking vs backpacking?

I love my Fenix 6X Sapphire. My only complaint is that it doesn’t recognize the distinction between hiking with a light daypack vs backpacking with a heavy (>30 lbs) backpack for purposes of counting calories. Seems like there should be an option to input estimated pack weight and have that influence the estimated number of calories burned.

  • NO that isnt the complete statement at all. How thick do you have to be. I took that from the cypres site. IThey are very careful to couch what they say with conditions. There is a reason for that. I wonder what that could be.

Since 10th January 1991 no CYPRES failed to activate when the conditions were given. Therefore CYPRES showed a level of reliability within the reach of 100% at that time.

Haha Slight smile You don't understand the sentence:

    When the conditions were given.

The pressure sensor is located in the main unit. This unit continuously measures the height while jumping. The speed of the jumper can be calculated by changing the height over time. If the system reports too high a SPEED below a defined trigger HEIGHT, it assumes an emergency.

Depending on the manufacturer, further CONDITIONS MUST be given.

    When the conditions were given.

The main unit then sends an electrical pulse to the cutter, which is actuated by a pyrotechnic detonator.
This then INITIATES the OPENING mechanism of the reserve PARACHUTE.

THESE are the CONDITIONS which MUST BE GIVEN so that the OPENING of the reserve PARACHUTE be initiated

      (Users manual) :

It activates the release unit when it detects a rate of descent higher than approx. 78 mph (35 m/s) at an altitude of approx. 750 feet (approx. 225meters) above ground level (AGL). In the event of a cutaway CYPRES will operate down to approx. 130 feet above ground level. Below approx. 130 feet (approx. 40 meters) above ground level open- ing is no longer useful. For this reason, CYPRES ceases operation below approximately 130 feet above ground level.

    ——

In ALL other CONDITIONS it should NOT activate. If it does, it can kill you.

Ideally, you will pay a lot of money to purchase and maintain it, but hopefully it’s never needed.

Certain life-threatening CONDITIONS  must BE GIVEN for the system that it activates itself.
You usually fall at up to 200 km / h (50 m / s). When CYPRES is activated you have 4 seconds until you hit the ground. So if it hadn't worked once in the more than 4000 rescues, it would have meant death.

  • "So if it hadn't worked once in the more than 4000 rescues, it would have meant death"

That is just the cases where it deployed in normal circumstances, and in those circumstances it saved lives. which is great.

It has failed in other situations where the results wernt critial, or it was found to be faulty before the jump was taken. Just because its faulty doesnt mean somebody will die. the vast majority of the time it is never used, so faulty or not, you would never know.

  • Man how hard is that ?

It has failed in other situations where the results wernt critia

NO ! Where did you read that ?

Since 10th January 1991 no CYPRES failed to activate when the conditions were given. Therefore CYPRES showed a level of reliability within the reach of 100% at that time.

Do you mean this text? you simply do not understand it. If you want to understand how it works, read the German wiki article completely.

    translation :

For example, no case is known to date in which a properly operated system of the Cypres type would not have triggered in an emergency.

From the Company 25th celebration :

CYPRES has been along on 120 million jumps; in all that time, no CYPRES has ever failed to activate, and no CYPRES has ever failed to sever the reserve loop.

Either its 100% or it isnt, you cant sit on both sides of the fence.

    Is everything clear now?

  • you can write that 2572376. This is how it ends when someone wants to comment on something they have no idea about :) I've said everything about it.

  • you can write that 2572376

Yeah I didn't have you in mind, I quoted you just because it was the last on the thread.

Can we all go back in topic please?

    with pleasure Thumbsupsorry for that!

  • On topic question:

The dcrainmaker article on calorie measurement talks about the six main methods Garmin devices use. Maybe someone already posted this and I missed it but..does anyone know which method the fenix 6x uses?

  • do you mean this ? From the fenix 6 users manual :

Your calories burned includes your base metabolism plus activity calories.
