Fenix 6 pro

Hello,

first sorry for my bad English, i’m just a simple person from the Netherlands ;). I would like to buy the garmin fenix 6 pro. But when i read this forum, i see a lot of people who have bad experiences with the heart rate sensor. Is this a problem what garmin could fix with software? Or is this a reason not to buy it?

and are other sensors like altitude / gps etc, more accurate?

Thanks for helping!

  • It's unbelievably good, just get one. The only people posting here are a handful of the millions of users world wide .. and I'm afraid many of them will never be happy no matter what. You will love it!

  • I was using my FR645 since two years and like you hesitate a lot for the F6. Specially when I read that forum and HR problem.

    I bought a 6pro in july.

No prob at all with all the betas FW since july. WHR is perfect here (in activity, running only for me, AND outside an activity in everyday wear). 100% equal to my chest strap, my AW serie 2 and my 645.

Only a bit lagy on interval training, like all the WHR in fact, so really no problem.

Thank you so much! you guys convinced me, i’m going to buy it :)!

  • Since everyone who replied here was enthusiastic, I would like to give my two different cents.

The altimeter is not very precise (Suunto's is much better). The GPS accuracy is dwarfed by that of Garmin handhelds. WHR has many problems for many people. There are a number of bugs that have not been fixed, the most embarrassing one being the bike activity that records wrong altimetry if the watch is worn on the left wrist.

  • The people who are on here with issues absolutely have a right to air their complaints. After paying out a huge amount for the so called premiere multi sport watch I think they have a right to expect the thing to work right out of the box. There are several Im all right jack types on here who dont add anything positive to the discussions and there are many who try to help other people solve the issues that they may have had themselves.

I bought a 6X sapphire 3 months ago and love it. My use case is hiking and flying, I had a FR 645M before and that was also great, but its battery life was useless for multi day hikes which is a feature I require.

The fenix 6X battery life is stupendous when the watch works properly but the last 2 updates have caused a lot of agro with a lot of users, not all of them on here. Garmin do have issues with QA, and maybe different Skus and maybe different hardware builds of the watches, whatever it is, its really not good enough for a device that is so expensive.

My battery drain when bought was approx 2% a day (idle), then after 11.10 update it crashed to losing 30% in 6 hours. After mucking around upgrading, downgrading to 10.10 for several days, I now have it back on 10.10 with a battery drain so far, of approx 1% every 24 hours (idle)(amazing).

I am not crazy concerned about metrics etc, I just want battery life, GPS, and lat/long and OS Grid reporting and my watch is staying on 10.10 now until I see a stable release come out from garmin or I will return it for an exchange/repair.

Garmin also make aviation GPS hardware and software, I have one in my plane, and "It just works", it would not be allowed anywhere near a plane if it didnt, so there is no real excuse for such terrible QA and lack of customer service interaction considering how many watch devices have been sold.

I think the fenix 6X sapphire is just brilliant, I now have a working watch again, and I will wait with interest the next release from Garmin.

Garmin customer support is just complete rubbish, it would do them no harm to acknowledge the issues and say we are working on it. A bit of proactive damage control would go a long way towards improving customer satisfaction.

Of course these forums are full of people complaiing about issues, thats why its called Garmin Support. Duh !!!!.

Why would anybody who had a fully functioning watch hang around a support forum when there is no reason to, you would have thought that a few of them need to get a life. !!

Would I advise somebody to buy one, Yes of course I would, BUT do not allow the firmware to be updated until its proved stable with no or only a few non mainstream issues, and make sure you know how to downgrade a release back to the previous stable one if needs be.

  • My 6 pro drains about 20% daily. I'm on latest firmware revision. How did you downgrade? I may try that...Love it btw, just wished i didn't have to charge every 3 days.

  • I just tried that and now am unable to use the device won’t pair with phone and has lost all my settings. Be patient and wait for a fix!!
