Since firmware 11.10 watch face switches automatically to running activity after 5 min

I didn't even know it was possible to switch to watch face during an active activity. How do you do it?

But to be honest it sounds more like a feature than a bug to me...

This behavior is available since at least the F5X series and also was available in the firmware version before 10.77 beta (for the F6 series).

The MagicDust watch face provides for this user scenario extra super useful data field visualizations for all supported devices.

The strange 5 minutes auto-switch to the running activity is definitely a bug! 

Actually, I'm not sure I'd consider this a bug.  If there is no timeout, I can see where people forget they are recording an activity.

On many watches, when in an activity, if you go to the widget loop, you only see native WFs and widgets if you have a CIQ DF in the activity, which limits what a CIQ WF can do during an activity.

In general this behavior has changed and should be reverted or a device settings has to be introduced to change the timeout. 5 minutes is almost to short.

I want to get the fantastic data fields within the watch face because no data field display can show such a kind of information!

This basic feature is working since 2 years within this watch face.

...and now Garmin removes this feature, this is so annoying.

The other thing is that ca. 250k downloads show that this feature is used by the community.

(ca.100k downloads of the release version and ca. 150k downloads of the beta version)

My usecase is that I go for a ride and use an edge to display the map in full screen and in addition I use the fenix with this watch face for all data information I want.

OK, so as far as I understand it, this is not a standard feature of the garmin watches, but a feature of the app "MagicDust watch face".

When it auto-switches reproducably it almost surely is not a bug but a "feature", which was not disclosed by garmin. But I suggest they had their reasons for implementing it. 

No this is bug is not only related the the MagicDust watch face, it's a general issue.

Here some other user scenarios that make sense to not have this auto switch.

- If a user wants to display the watch face during the complete activity he do not want the watch automatically toggle back every 5 minutes after he enables the watch face.

- If a user wants to save battery during an activity he can select the minimal default watch face for the complete activity, this is also not possible because of the auto switch.

This might be the case. However, a bug is a uncontrolled, unwanted behaviour of software. In this case, it obivously is a timeout which has been set for a reason. You, and others, might very well not like that feature and we will see if Garmin decides to revert. This will be the case if enough people complain about it, which I doubt. 

I never needed to got back to a watch face during activity. After activity I check the stats and close the stats screen within half a minute. But that's just me.
