GPS Offset problem

(Updated, what I really ran in blue, what the watch recorded in red )

I did a run today, 45 minutes in total. From around 20 minutes (the black dot on circled at the bottom, the gps plots at a 45 degree angle.

In reality a ran straight here and continued in the direction of the arrow to mirror the section where i ran down (beside the downward pointing arrow)

The strange thing is the plot id mostly accurate apart from it seems to be offset by 100m in a north east direction!

it kept this incorrect offset for the remaining 25minutes. No bridges / tunnels/ big buildings.

its as if the 25later minutes some cut cut and past my run to the edge of the 45 degree tail where it deviated

Has anyone ever seen this or know the cause?

NOTE. it seems to track the offset route from the elbow at the 'M50" notation ... just 100m off. I sketched the actual route on strava and it was actually .35km longer

I’ve never seen that on a recent watch. I did once see it on a 620, where at the start of the activity the route was the right shape displaced more like 400m, and suddenly snapped to the correct location about a mile in.

One off for me, fingers crossed the same is true for you.

What GPS grid system are you using ?. Different systems use a different mathematical geoid to calculate where you are and coordinates can be up to a few hundred meters off and will be consistently so. So in US its usually WGS84, in UK its usually OS Grid references. You also have to use the correct map with the correct grid system as the maps are based off the grid system.

This may not be the problem at all. But this sort of problem will produce identical issues.

I am using GPS and glonaas standard settings in Ireland . The funny part is it went off half way through the run as can see near the word "museum" on the bottom left of the picture with the red track, so was accurate up to that point

Seems to be similar, hope its a once off! Not crazy impressed with the GPS on the 6s so far. had a 245 that seemed much better but unfortunately i had to return it as it kept dropping heart rate from my HRM try several times during each run i'd do. Fantastic watches if they stay issue free tho

seen it multiple times doing this on the forerunenr 620

needed a GPS firmware upgrade (then mediatek) now sony

report it to the outdoor beta team and garmin support

I reported it via the general online chat who said there was nothing the can do until i can repeat it (im in need of a few days off so that wont happen for a while :D)

Is there a different way to report this?

so Garmin Support ignored your info

you should insist on a case number

you can use the email from the outdoor beta team to report it

explain everything you did, also in preparation to the activity
following a course or waiting for sat reception or which GPS settings used
etc etc
zip the content of your device (without maps)
not to forget the activity files

and send the whole lot to [email protected]

I had a similar issue yesterday, the GPS track has me significantly either side of the footpath I actually ran on, I ran it in both directions. It's not the first time I've seen that on that stretch of path. I'm on 4.50 GPS.
