Battery drain fast

after recent software update, My fenix 6 sapphire battery drain so fat that one night 40% battery run off. would you please advise what's wrong? thanks!

  • After all the hassle I have a sneaking suspicion that the battery just can't hold charge after a certain time frame, makes sense.  No different than a cell phone.  Constant charge/discharge 24 hours a day does wear a battery down to poor performance.

You could be right, but that's pretty poor - lets assume you charge once a week, so over 2 years you are likely to be putting around 100 charge cycles, I wouldn't expect degradation like folks are seeing after 100 cycles / 2 years. And if you get the advertised battery life (which I never have) you are looking at around 70 charge cycles in 2 years, or around 28-35 charges a year. I don't think the cell phone analogy is good one, as they are typically charged once a day which naturally burns through charge cycles before degradation (inability to hold charge) occurs..

If this is the case, then Garmin are probably sourcing very low quality batteries - which is why they replace so readily maybe? I think if there is a problem, then they should treat their customers equally - replacement shouldn't be a lottery depending on where you live. Battery drain is probably one of the most talked about topics here and in other places where Garmin watches are discussed.

  • Totally agree with you on this.  It is certainly not the best scenario.

I would say they are probably well aware of this battery issue and, as you say it is a lottery, on their end for sure.  Create millions of units (guess) send them out and see what happens.   Or rather buy lessor batteries at better pricing assuming they will last and find out there is a problem in a couple years.  However this gets Garmin through the next cycle to the new F7 in hopes folks will pony up.

Speculation and conspiracy theories abound.  Nonetheless I and a few are happy to get our replacements.

  • So having got my refurbished Fenix 6X Sapphire I can report the following, it has been going for 18 days and still has 15% battery left.

    My settings are as below:

No pulse oxygen, no wife, bluetooth on and notifications enabled, sleep mode during so not disturb from 10pm to 6am. All other settings as per factory and using a factory digital display face.

Activity wise over the period I recorded 18 activities, about half of which would have been using the GPS. Activities included walking, cycling and cardio.

I never got this much battery even when new from the other one, so in reality you should be getting 20 days between charges. So if you battery is going, as mine was in a matter of 2 days of so, then you need to get onto Garmin open a case and get a refurbished model. I believe there is an issue with the battery rather than just a software problem.

I have had the exact same results with my refurb.   Settings, activity levels, etc. roughly same as yours.  Plus golf for 5 hours per week constant GPS.

Basically a $190 battery replacement job.

This is NOT a software issue.
