Battery drain fast

after recent software update, My fenix 6 sapphire battery drain so fat that one night 40% battery run off. would you please advise what's wrong? thanks!

  • Thank you Sir!  That was a great help.  Hopefully this Solves the problem.

  • I definitely know mine was not and I dont think most of these post update cases are due to a manually set wifi setting happening to be set right after update. Possibly update turns on that setting and won't turn it back off as part of the other screwy things happening after an update in certain cases though. Both times it happened to me it was after update and rebooting both watch and app a couple times did the trick. Neither time after the update was wifi setting ever turned on or off by me. Of course wifi will drain the battery, and if you turned it on then sure, so if you play with wifi settings, definitely check for that and other possible user errors. But manually turning on wifi setting isn't the after update cause of battery drain that happened in my case, and shouldn't be reset in multiple reboots even.

  • I've tested the watch in "battery saver" mode overnight, meaning everything was off, and it still went from 100% to 60% in 8 hrs....  I've reset the watch to factory settings multiple times, even ran it for a day without synching it to the phone, just running it at base settings (turning off the wifi and setting backlight to low).   Still the drain occurs.      I'm going through different firmware versions to see if I can find something, but the solution is definitely not just "turn off the wifi".     Something in the 13.10 update screwed the firmware.

  • I updated the GPS FW to 5.00.  The watch was discharging at what seemed like a normal rate.  After a 3 hour run, the watch dropped by 8% (normal on long runs with high accuracy GPS).  The watch sync'd with my phone.  From that point, the watch started discharging 1-2%/hour again.  Are you still experiencing normal battery discharge, or has the watch started draining again?

  • I am experiencing exactly the same behavior. About a year ago with Fenix 5 plus it was called post activity battery drain and I can't believe it's happening again with Fenix 6. Also I don't know if this is related with 13.10 FW, because I just bought the watch and did upgrade to the latest FW, but I can tell you that the workaround for this issue is to power off/on after the activity.

  • There are two threads on this and I turned off BT today in my F6X and no battery drain at all really. Well in last 6 hours I have only seen 1% drop.

  • I don't have BT turned on all the time, I just synced it after the activity. Also I have synced it a couple of times after the power off/on and there was no battery drain.

  • I agree, this appears to begin after an activity is syncd with Garmin Connect.  I also have noticed that the battery discharge/hour seems to increase, and I have not found any settings that slow or stabilize the drop.

    1. When you say you turned BT off, do you mean you turned the "Phone" status to "Off"?  I don't see an option that says "Bluetooth".  I turned "Phone" status to "Off" with no change.

    2. Does this create an issue when using livetrack?  Livetrack only works with connection to a cellular device.  I use this every activity, as it can get pretty remote around some of the gas fields.

I'm just looking for clarification, as I can turn about everything on this watch off or on, but I don't see anything that references BT.  Just Phone, with the BT mark on it.

  • Yesterday I was seeing the same so I turned BT off on the watch in the settings and fixed all battery drain (2% in 24 hours).

today I figured I would do another test and turn BT back on so I can get the smart notifications but I did disable GC background refresh in my ios settings and closed the app. So far in 4 hours no battery drain at all. Will report back tomorrow.

i am thinking based on preliminary tests at least with ios it has something to do with GC as before I always had it open on my phone.

  • I've seen a lot of post about turning certain things off to stop the battery.  My watch is only getting worst, and not does not make it a full day without needing charged.

    I've tried:

    - Updating GPS Firmware to 5.00 (Only noticeable change/temporary fix until first activity/sync with GC)

    - Shutting off Phone Pairing (No Change)

    - Shutting off O2/OHR (Shows increase in battery life estimate, but does not actually slow the drain)

    - Removing IQ Watch Faces/Widgets (No Change)

    - Soft restart after activities (Just stares back at you with a blank screen look that says "you'll achieve nothing")

    - Full reset to default without data delete (A lot of work rebuilding everything for no-results, would not recommend)

    - Deleting the activity folder (No Change)

It seems like the newest software 13.10 has bugs accross multiple systems.

    Hopefully this is resolved soon.
