Does anyone use the Stryd foot pod with their Fenix 6X

My old Garmin foot pod died today.  I am considering purchasing the Stryd foot pod.  Can anyone share their experience with using one on a Fenix 6X.  Is there any compatibility issue?  Does the data show up on the Garmin Connect mobile app?  Any info would be appreciated.

  • I use stryd. No problems with connectivity at any point. As long as you add the appropriate stryd power fields on the activity within the watch all that data transfers to the Connect app automatically.  I've used stryd on fenix 3, fenix 5 plus, 945 and 6x solar.  My stryd is obviously a few years old now but I've had similar experiences with each watch.  Depending on what data you're looking to get, there are definitely cheaper options out there. Honestly, if you don't train with power, a new calibrated garmin foot pod and hrm tri is a better combo in my opinion. My stryd was a gift, i probably wouldn't have purchased one otherwise. My wife just knew I wanted a better way to track instant pace and now here we are. I do like it though haha. YMMV.

P.s. sorry for any underlined words just ignore them. Im on mobile and my keyboard is acting really odd.

  • I also am a Stryder. Used on my F6X Sapphire and now TacticD no compatibility whats so over. All Stryd data shows up in GC at the bottom of the activity also link Garmin and Stryd and it will be uploaded to Stryd where you can evaluate your data in far more detail. But as mentioned by Rayjeffr only buy it when you want to go running with power or you want the most accurate pace and distance. If you just want metrics like cadence GCT and the like there are far cheaper solutions.

  • I have A Stryd Air/Wind for outdoor runs and the previous Stryd for my curved manual treadmill, which needs a different power (weight) calibration. Both work great with my 6X Pro Solar (and Zwift). No dropouts, all data present and correct.

  • It's much more consistent over a wide range of paces than the Garmin pod (though I find the exact calibration can drift every time you take your shoes off and on, +/-1% which is about the same as GPS overall).

If you use the Stryd Power data fields, the data show up on the GC mobile app, yes.

With the most recent betas, the watch has a habit of turning off sensors at the end of each activity, which applies to HRMs and bike sensors too. No compatibility issues at all apart from that.

  • I use a Stryd Wind since a couple of weeks and it integrates perfectly with Garmin Connect Mobile as well as Garmin Connect Web as long as you install and use their data field during the activity. Notice the data marked with "IQ" on the screenshot:

The data field can be used as a single (on field layout) or together with other metrics.

If you want to train using power or if instant pace is important Stryd is worth the money but apart from that I would say that the data Garmin gives you is good enough. GPS distance is one of the most discussed topics and my experience is that unless I go into the dense forests and do technical trail the distance using GPS on my F6X is on pair with the distance from my Stryd (which is also what google and other route planning software says it should be).

    Best regards,
    Tobias

  • Maybe not exactly what you're asking but: I use Stryd (Wind) 100% of the time I use my treadmill. It is extremely accurate (I think I have a factor of 1.01 or 1.02). I don't use it for power (used to care about running power but not anymore). I don't use any of the Stryd fields but as a replacement for the Garmin foot pod, Stryd is amazingly accurate and low, medium, and high speeds on the treadmill.  For power, you would use the Stryd fields. For pace it works just like the Garmin foot pod sensor (bluetooth or Ant+).

  • The only issue is that I get a low battery warning on the watch.  I leave it plugged into the USB connection in my car along with my Air Pods and Wahoo arm strap.   Otherwise, it works just fine.

I'm not sure I needed it but it was interesting to see that it's about 10% harder to run the other way when it's a hill.

  • I use it with the 6X, had it 2 weeks and it integrates well.  Just for the improved (and very accurate) pace and distance I think its worth it to me as it doesn't have the GPS "lag" and indicates an acceleration instantly. It did look complex to set up from the Stryd website, but in the end it was very straight forward (if you follow the instructions!) and like the other replies it all shows up fine in Garmin Connect using the Stryd Zones ConnectIQ.  I had an issue getting it to update from Ggarmin Connect and "fedback" through the Stryd App - within 30 minutes I'd had a response and after a few back and forth questions over email it was solved - really good customer support.  The power is interesting, but as I've read it needs a fair bit of data to make good predictions and I've only about 8 activities using it so far.  I think running by Stryd power is better than the Garmin PacePro, certainly on hilly courses as the PacePro seems to be set up for well trained hill runners and no matter how far to the left you move the slider for "easier" hills, it does not reduce the pace anywhere near enough to be realistic.

  • I've had my Stryd for well over 2 years. I bought it when it first came out. Worked flawlessly with my Fenix 3, and just as well with my 6x. If you take the time to calibrate it once on a 400m track you can get it down to insane accuracy. It's pretty accurate for most people out of the box, but I run like a duck and had to calibrate it to get it super accurate. You only need to do that once and it's good for all paces. I highly recommend it.
