Fenix 6 Pro keeps disconnecting/connecting during activity

Hello,

My Fenix 6 Pro keeps disconnecting and connecting during any activity (but not always). It is appr. 1min connected, then 1min disconnected and so on. It is very annoying, as the notification beeps all the time and the widgets, which need connection to the internet, don't work. I tested in on iPhone and also Android, similar behaviour. When the activity is not running, there are no problems with connection (at home I am always connected without any problem). Firmware version always latest, currently 10.10 (I have got these problems for a very long time, probably from the beginning - Dec 2019).

Is it HW problem and should I claim?

Thanks.

  • Do you mean that your watch is connecting and disconnecting from your phone during a workout or do you mean that you are having connectivity issues with a sensor like a HR strap or bike cadence sensor?

If it is the phone connection, then you'll want to ensure that your phone is relatively close to the watch.  Bluetooth being 2.4Ghz actually has a really hard time passing through a human body due to all the water in our tissue. Try keeping the phone on the same side of your body as the watch. Some phones are worse than others. You also should check that battery optimization is disabled for the Garmin Connect app on your phone.

If it is a sensor, then remove and re-pair the sensor and make sure that the battery in the sensor is fresh.

  • To add to what tapuzzo said, if this is an indoor activity you might also have interference from WiFi if you have a 2.4 Ghz WiFi network operating. The solution to that is to change the control channel your router is using to one that interferes less.

Also, you can turn off the bluetooth connected alert. I did because it gets annoying if you leave your phone in one place and move around the house or office it will disconnect and reconnect and give an alert each time. If you want to turn that off go to Menu>Phone>Alerts and turn that off.

  • Use ANT+ for external sensors whenever possible (many sensors support both). I had connected my stryd with BT and suddenly during a run all the connections went down for about a minute. No problems since I use ANT+ only for the connection to the phone.

  • I am responding to all individuals with F6 disconnection issues in the hope Garmin will finally listen.  IMO I believe the fault lies with ANT/BLE/BT v6.06.  Try back dating to ANT/BLE/BT v5.04.  (I have attached the file).  If this works for you please report back here and also send a bug report to: o[email protected].

    Hello guys,

thank you for much for your response. To make it clear, this connection problems occur during workout (bicycle). No sensors connected, phone placed in my backpocket. I would understand problems with BT signal, but, I also have Garmin Edge 520 on my bicycle, and it has no problem with connection, it is completely stable all the time. I tried to use both devices connected together, also separated, but it doesnt matter, problems are still there.

I know, that I can turn off bluetooth connection alerts, but it doesnt resolve my problem, as I dont receive any notification, when F6 is disconnected.

I tried really everything, factory reset, Android, iPhone (XS, iOS 13 and also 14beta), but still the same results. But as I wrote, when I am at home, I dont have any problem, I can walk all over the flat without connection problems. As soon as I start the workout and go out, I dont hear anything else just beep - disconnected - beep - connected - beep - disconnected........

I will try this older BT firmware tomorrow and write back...

My issue has been intermittent signal loss between the watch (in left wrist) with my headphones (both AirPods Pro and Jabra Elite 65t).  Signal is very choppy, but only outdoors.  Note, phone is not nearby.  This had worked flawlessly up until about 1 month ago.  I tried putting the phone in my hat, thus closer to headphone, and it did not cut out at all.  So I'm assuming the BT range from the watch to the headphones has been decreased with a software update?

  • MatusKra did you try the old firmware?

  • Hi, I downgraded back to 5.04 as you suggested. I got connected to my phone within 5 seconds and my headset connected as well. I got around 5 secs of music before the music went dead but I think thats a music app issue as the headset and phone are still perfectly connected. At least I have a 1/2 way functioning watch again. Thanks for that file.

  • Great stuff pal!  Glad your F6 is useable again. Hopefully Garmin will address this issue in the next Beta firmware release.  It would be helpful if you send them an email though, just so they have more cases of this issue.  My F6 is rock solid with ANT/BT/BLE v5.04 still and for now thats were it is staying!
