Cool. Hopefully someone will add Audible as well.
“Podcasts” sort of in the same way Spotify has “podcasts”. They do not appear to support subscribing to arbitrary RSS feeds but instead the feed is submitted to the service and then distributed to the client app through their streaming distribution channel. That leaves Spotify and Amazon as the choke point and distributor that has the power to approve and censor any content as well as potentially re-encoding streams and/or injecting advertising. Podcast producers have to agree to contract terms for inclusion by the Spotify and Amazon services. In this case they have to agree to a non-disparagement clause meaning they disclaim criticizing Amazon in order to be considered for inclusion.
It’s not really podcasts. It’s a podcast-adjacent play for free audio content that they don’t have to pay royalties on.
Any recommendations? I have podcasts on google podcasts, itunes, pod casts - android etc.
Would love if there was once that when I listen to itunes/run podcast, it then updates everywhere else... so that in google podcasts on my phone, I don't need to find the same podcast and mark as listened to.
It's either an overaching thing, OR one that exists everywhere - Garmin watch, Phone. Any ideas?
I don’t have a great solution. I bring my phone along on walks and Z2 runs when I want to listen to a podcast. Even on Apple Watch which has a lot more compute power and programmability, I don’t think there is currently a really good solution.
For music on the watch, I use playlists that I synced from iTunes and Amazon Music.
There is the Runcasts app which looks like it should work but I have not explored it because I don’t want to deal with waiting for slow syncing on the watch and it has no way of keeping sync with Overcast on my phone the things I have listened to.
I have written about I handle various podcasts here:
You have essentially manually reproduced the 2005 iTunes to iPod over FireWire (or USB) podcast workflow.
Amazon Music now has podcasts: https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/16/21439531/amazon-music-podcasts-prime-titles
That said, I don't see a way to add them to the F6 via the current Amazon Music CIQ app. I wrote the developer to make a request - hopefully this can happen, as it would be a free/seamless way to get podcasts onto the F6
I use Runcasts daily and it works well most of the time. The slow syncing can be an issue sometimes but it won't be better with any other service.
Yeah, just hoping that if the Amazon CIQ app gains support for podcasts, it can be more capable than the free version of Runcasts (not as relevant if you are happy with paid version)
“Podcasts”. Not really. They are syndicating podcasts that sign up through their separate not-podcast channel. They do not support paid subscription podcasts either.
