Question on the Fenix 6S Pro coming from a 6S Sapphire

I managed to get a full refund on my Fenix 6S Sapphire after the barometric altimeter became unusable. I needed a new one and I found the Fenix 6S Pro Black on Amazon for only £502 so I brought it immediately. My original decision to go with the Sapphire model over the Pro was based on the assumption that the DLC bezel would hold up better to scuffs and the sapphire display would be a £100 insurance policy for the watch, but after a year I still managed to get a few marks on the bezel just from dropping it in the shower, although the screen was still as new. Back then the £100 difference seemed worth it, but now the difference is £200 with the discount on the Pro so it would seem daft to spend that much money on the sapphire model again for a watch that’s been out a year already and will be obsolete when the 7 comes out. Also the Gorilla Glass will really improve the clarity and contrast of the screen.

My question is how tough is the Gorilla Glass, and is it the same as an iPhone 11 Pro? Since I have managed to get that covered in fine swirl marks that you can see under sunlight just from putting it in and out of a soft microfibre sleeve! And how tough is the black non-DLC coating? I mostly run, cycle and go to the gym - I don’t rock climb or anything like that.

  • I've got an iphone 11pro- and my phone's glass does have fine swirl marks and a couple little scratches on it.  I see nothing like that on my Gorilla glassed Fenix 6P.

There's no doubt that the sapphire crystal is nearly indestructible, but the gorilla glassed non-saph Fenixes are really pretty darn good.  After nearly a year of use- and I do everything with my watch on- I can just make out two tiny scratches on my gorilla glass.  The rest of the screen still appears immaculate. No swirl marks or microscratches at all.   I think that the significantly lower reflections from the gorilla glass alone- is easily

    worth it over the sapphire.

You can see the scratches here:  one under BATT 9d, the other by the H in the temperature at 5 o'clock.  on a day to day basis- I don't even see these scratches.  the enlarged photo and the angle I chose makes them more prominent.

I'd choose the Gorilla over Sapphire even if they were the same price.

Can't speak to the DLC.  I am seeing lightening of the black anodize on the fine edges of the bezel with my non-DLC watch.  Such is life.  This is something I wear every day.  It's not a dress watch.  It's a tool.  I'lll use it for a few years and then buy the "Fenix 9 Pro plus X" when it comes out.
