Fenix 6 Sapphire Bluetooth and Wifi Syncing Issues

I've been struggling with Bluetooth & WiFi connectivity/synicing since the install of V.9.0 software. I've done both Hard and Soft Resets of the watch several times; removed the watch from Garmin Connect; Deleted Garmin connect and re-downloaded; and I've even tried to connect the watch to a different, older, iPhone.

Basically everything worked brilliantly, then sometime after Software V.9.0 was downloaded my watch woudln't sync to my phone and now it won't connect to the wifi either (I've tried several networks)

I'm now at software V10.10 which I managed to download via Garmin Express. I've since tried to re-pair to my iPhone with no success. I can't connect to the wifi either.

I emailed Garmin Support a few weeks and haven't recieved a reply so I was hoping that some of you helpful, knowledgeable people might be able to help me!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • It might be worth calling them, if that is an option for you. In the past, when I've had Bluetooth synchronization problems. I've removed the pairing from my phone manually. When Garmin Connect tries to connect, it cannot. It should then prompt you for the pairing code--and then re-pair.

You could also try removing the device from Garmin Connect on that phone, in addition to the step noted above. You can then re-add it. I think this also removes it from the web portal, but am not 100% about that.

And speaking of the web portal, you might try removing it from there as well. So, remove from the phone and the portal. It's possible that there is some gremlin on Garmin's servers' side, and that is ultimately what is causing the synchronization problem. I had this happen with a Venu; I was pulling my hair out trying to fix it.

  • If you're having issues with pairing on your iPhone:

    • Remove the watch from Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM)
    • 'Forget' the watch in Bluetooth settings on the iPhone.
    • Close GCM
    • Shutdown and restart your iPhone.
    • Shutdown and restart your watch.
    • Open GCM
    • Select Add Device in GCM
    • Select Pair Phone on your watch

I have found that this does not always work first time unfortunately so might need to repeat.

If you're having issues connecting to WiFi:

    • Connect the watch to your computer with the cable and open Garmin Express.
    • Go to Tool & Content, Utilities.
    • If you have a WiFi entry there, delete it and re-add it.

Note that the Wifi needs to be 2.4GHz and not hidden. If you have a router broadcasting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz you need to separate them by providing a different name for each.

You might find further information in threads here - forums.garmin.com/.../

  • I do not believe it is accurate to say that 2.4 and 5 need to have separate SSIDs. The watch doesn't even "see" 5GHz, so it wouldn't have any idea of the existence of the same SSID on another frequency range.

I have the same SSID on both, and never have a problem with my F6. Normally I would just let this fly, but it could be some serious work to make this network change...and a lot of manual effort on devices that have the capability for both. (Auto-switching.)

Many thanks for the advice Joel. I can certainly sympathise with the struggles you've had with your Venu! Unfortunately I've had no more success trying everything you've suggested with exception of phoning Garmin directly. When I try to pair the phone and watch the session times out and I get a "pairing failed" message on the fenix. I'll call Garmin and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the advice on both the BT and wifi issue.

    Regarding BT pairing:

After working through your instructions above, what I have noticed is that my phone can't find the watch at all now under Bluetooth settings where all my other Bluetooth devices are listed. I'm not sure if this is anything to do with the problem or not, but it seemed strange that the watch doesn't even show under 'other devices' when it hasn't been paired yet.

    Regarding Wifi:

I've been using the same wifi router (and it's pretty basic with only one frequency available) ever since I got my watch so I'm not sure that's anything to do with it. I can see wifi networks and am able to enter a password, but it is at that point I fail - I have got someone else to enter the passwords too, just in case I was doing something ridiculous!  I've the same issue on my home wifi and when using my phone as a hotspot.

  • I'm having constant wifi issues as well, my issue is it keep stating "incorrect password" and I have countlessly verified that it is correct.

Having used Garmin web chat they have agreed to replace my watch as it is under warranty. The bluetooth issue alone was enough to warrant the replacement.

Good tips from Philip.  The absolute last resort would be resetting your watch.  I don't like that when you reset that there is no restore function to bring your settings and music back to the way they were before your reset.  it's a pain.
