Quatix 6x Solar vs Fenis 6x Solar

Hi I am about to purchase a Quatix 6x solar titanium. I looked at all the comparisons online and would like to understand the following

1) Is the Fenix 6x hardware the same as the quatix 6x. i note on the garmin website it shows standard bluetooth for quatix but fenix shows bluetooth smart. I think this is an error because even quatix 5 had bluetooth smart.

2) Is the only difference of the quatix the fact there are specific apps. In essence I can make the quatix into a fenix and a fenix into a quatix based on apps alone

3) can the quatix 6x be updated with the fenix 6x firmware

Fenix 6x solar titanium is only sold through an agent in australia and I would prefer to buy through garmin because I get a discount. My assessment is that quatix and fenix are the same watches and only the apps/ profiles and watch face is different which can all be removed or placed on the watch anytime.

Can anyone confirm some or all of the above.

  • 1) Both models have both regular bluetooth (for headphone connectivity) and bluetooth smart for smartphone and/or sensor connectivity.

    2) You can't make an F6X into a Quatix just by adding or removing apps. For example the SailAssist functionality is available on the Quatix only, and cannot be ported to an F6X.

    3) I don't know the direct answer to that question. It's possible that both models share the same firmware, nonetheless even if that's the case, it won't turn a quatix into a fenix, and vice versa.

thankyou for clarifying the bluetooth is the same

On the garmin website when both are compared against each other other than bluetooth (which we now say is the same) the only differences are:

    1) Advanced sleep monitoring with Fenix but not with quatix. (this I think is also a typo because even the quatix 5 had sleep monitoring)

    2) A number of boating feature profiles including Anchor, Autopilot, boat data etc most of which can be downloaded from garmin connect

    3) Fenix has virtual running profile which quatix does not

    4) Golfing touch targeting which fenix has but quatix does not

    5) Around me mode which fenix 6x has but quatix 6x does not. Strange quatix 6 on garmin website shows it also has around me mode and their own Quatix 6x manual shows it has it. It is clear to me the quatix 6x specs have not been thought through on what appears online. I just think they threw a few boating apps on a fenix and changes the clock face to make it blue and appear more boating related.

    6) MTB Grit and Flow which fenix has but quatix does not

    7) cycling advanced vector support which fenix has but quatix does not even though quatix manual says it has this support same as fenix manual

I am getting the quatix because the fenix titanium I can't get at the same price and in essence I want to have all the bells and whistles of the fenix on the quatix. I don't care for sailing features. I will be deleting them.  It is also interesting when you go to software downloads on the garmin website for quatix it goes to the fenix 6x website.  The manual which I have read is almost a find replace of the word fenix with quatix except for navigation section. It has the same sleep monitoring and everything appears to be same as fenix at least in the manual.

  • Does the Quatix also have the topo active maps from fenix? Or just the marine maps?

Marine charts are optional on the quatix. it comes with the same maps fenix has. The more I see this and the more I read the manual for both fenix and quatix it is exactly the same watch albeit with a different skin. the online specs for quatix are wrong.  Even Garmin head office in Australia could not tell me the differences. First they said there are no hardware differences. Then when I pointed bluetooth smart in the online specs showed quatix does not have it they said actually there are hardware differences. quattix does not have bluetooth smart like fenix. Then I research more and find out bluetooth smart is actual 4.0 which both fenix and quatix have. Really poorly communicated both online and through Garmin in terms of what quatix has and does not have compared to fenix. I guess I will know soon since I purchased the quatix 6x titanium with vented band.

  • I can see the difference in the glass. the 6x has sapphire. the Quantix doesn't.

  • I can see the difference in the glass. the 6x has sapphire. the Quantix doesn't.

Not sure where you are looking to see that, but it is not correct.

There are 3 models of the quatix:

quatix 6 - Gray with Captain Blue Band - Gorilla Glass

quatix 6 Titanium - Titanium Gray with Titanium Band - Sapphire

quatix 6x Solar - Titanium with Titanium Band - Power Glass / Gorilla Glass

The fenix 6x Pro Solar has the same Power Glass / Gorilla Glass as the quatix 6x Solar

my statement is correct, since this statement related to the model that this is about (to be found in the thread title;) :

I am about to purchase a Quatix 6x pro solar titanium.

quatix 6x Solar - Titanium with Titanium Band - Power Glass / Gorilla Glass

There is only one Solar model of quatix, the quatix 6x Solar, and it has Power Glass / Gorilla Glass.

There is only one Solar model of the fenix, the fenix 6x Pro Solar, and it also has Power Glass / Gorilla Glass.

    So... your statement:

I can see the difference in the glass. the 6x has sapphire. the Quantix doesn't.

can not be true - both have Power Glass / Gorilla Glass.

So in summary nobody (not even Garmin customer service) seems to know the actual real differences between the Quatix 6x Solar and Fenix 6X Solar. Pointing to the specs online for the comparison between the two as Garmin did with me is not helpful because clearly the data on the Garmin website is wrong based on what I have already found including in the Garmin user manuals which says one thing and the online specs say another thing e.g. around me mode not being available on Quatix 6x being just one example.  When I say real differences I mean those things either hardware or software which are confirmed differences which cannot be changed once you buy the watch.

  • sorry, it's not that easy at Garmin. In Germany, according to the Garmin website, the 6x Sapphire DLC is also made of titanium :)
