Which is the best program for route planning?
I’ve tried a bunch of options. Let me give you a few:
iOS
You can draw routes freehand if you turn off Auto-Pilot.
I find for freehand, Garmin Connect's own site is pretty good.
HESHER Thanks for the tip on Footpath. Not seen it before, but it's excellent!
How to draw without following roads on Brouter? It's actually almost what I want after GPSies went dead but I need to be able to draw without roads too.
OH I agree it's not 100% ideal, and it played up a little bit for me. But one thing I may have to test is import a GPX created elsewhere and see if I can TBT it.
But it was definitely the most success I''ve had with off-road TBT. Saying that, if anyone from Garmin is watching - take a look at a lot of what PlotARoute offers cause TBT off road is not easy, and it would be great if Garmin Connect did better in this.
Switch off auto-plot - near top of screen.
- basecamp - works well for Garmin devices and allows planning, stitching and editing tracks and routes I use it mostly for ultra marathon where I need to Mark aid stations and strategic points (peaks and valleys
I've used this in the past to add extra waypoints to display on the map like you for ultra's, but I think I may swap over to PlotAroute seeing how the TBT went.
Saying that, the ideal solution would be a mix of the two. Basecamp can be very good at some things, and really frustrating in others to me.
