Fenix 6 pro Solar standard consumption

Hi all,

I have read a lot of posts on battery drain but it is rather difficult to have a clear view wether the consumption is normal or not.

On my watch, I measured the following figures with a configuration close to the initial configuration with v 9.0

  • economy mode : 0,2 % per hour
  • normal without telephone connected : 0.4 % hour
  •  normal with telephone connected and notification for SMS calls only : 0.6 % hour
  • activity with GPS only : 16 % hour (Max 5h)

Are those figures in line with the standards ? Any suggestion of optimization ?

Personally I had 4 Fenix from the Fenix 2; this one is The first one for which I have to do optimizations In order to be be able to to do a complete Long run !

Thanks for feedback !

  • I was experiencing similar issues for the last 5 months (3 FW updates) and decided to send the watch back to Garmin two weeks ago. They replaced immediately and now I am really happy: since last Friday (=8 days ago) I have recorded 10 hours of activities as for now I have 67% battery remaining. Seems unrealistic but last 4 days I was staying outside all day long (under tropical sunshine in Taiwan).

  • 16%/hr is way too much. Something is wrong with your watch. Or have you also listened music, paired several sensors...?

  • No music for this test

I usually pair HRM + Stryd ; but I did the the test with or without with no significant change +/- 1 %

  • Thanks for your feedback mtb. I think I will do the same as my warranty will end up at the end of Summer

  • In smart watch mode the 6X Pro Solar should last 21 days from a full charge, plus whatever the solar element contributes. So that's just under 5% discharge per day or 0.2% per hour.

I'm on 9.97 Beta at the moment and my battery is at 28%. If I open up the Hike activity the watch forecasts 17 hours of GPS+GLONASS operation, so less than 2% per hour consumption. That's with OHR active as my strap is not connected.

Your figures look very far from normal.

  • Thanks for all feedback ... I just brought my Fenix 6X to my dealer for repair or replacement

  • They do sound pretty high compared with baseline consumption figures, and certainly a lot more than I get.

Note that the F6 has more high power drawing options than previous Fenix models, so it's worth looking at these features if you are experiencing higher power drain than you are used to:

    • SPO2
    • Music
    • Mapping (specifically leaving mapping as your active screen)

Plus there are the traditional high power drains that are also worth checking:

    • Backlight (look at both intensity and timeout/duration). Each 10% of backlight draws 1-1.5% per hour, so at higher intensities can draw quickly.
    • GLONASS/Gallileo - using these additional sat networks uses more power than GPS alone.
    • CIQ datafields - especially those that are heavily computational or graphical

  • Your battery consumption seems really high. I didnt do any specific tests but I can tell you about one of my more recent runs. I started with battery at 100%, having removed it from the charger 30 minutes prior to starting my run, and finished with 92%. Ran for 5 hours using GPS and glonss with my only connections to a stryd foot pod and hrmTri. No backlight use or Bluetooth connection. This was also without any solar charging as i had the watch in my pack the whole time. Hope this information is useful.
