Google pixel 4 vs. Garmin Connect. Fenix 6x Pro Solar

I cannot get my phone to pair with my device.  I have tried all the troubleshooting numerous times, and nothing works.

I am English, live in Japan, and the device was bought in Hong Kong (although originally in the UK I think).

I use a Google Pixel 4, and it is genuine, from the mobile provider Softbank.

I can pair the device in the phone's bluetooth, but not through the app.  It's connected to Garmin Express, and is working fine.

I'm almost sure it's an app based issue, and have sent a couple of emails to Garmin to explain the problem, but am yet to hear back from them.

I have honestly been trying all the usual troubleshooting options for days on end now, so it's not one of the usual problems.

Does anyone else have this problem, or does anyone have a non standard workaround to fix it?

Cheers

Nick

  • I think most people get better results from contacting Garmin Support via the phone, than via email.

That would be great, but as I said, I live in Japan.  I can't understand the team here, and am unwilling to pay for the call to the UK

  • My guess is in settings / app - force stop the garmin app. Then clear cache and storage. Uninstall garmin app. Turn phone off then on. Reinstall garmin app and try again. Maybe delete the watch from the bluetooth setting "previous connected" too before these steps. This means you are starting afresh with app & bluetooth watch connect. I know it doesn't help but I'm using a Pixel 4xl, I've previously connected a fenix 5, then a 6pro and now a tactix delta without issue. Let me know how you get on with a "fresh" install ok & good luck

Thanks for the advice, I tried it again.  Nothing.  The app just can't see the device.  My phone's Bluetooth can, just not through the app.  I've factory reset both my phone, and the watch too.  No use.

  • I have been down this road with a 6Pro and a Marq.  The Garmin mindset wants the connection via the app.  Typical Android thinking will just confuse things.  Garmin thinks in a stovepipe.  I suggest you purge the Fenix from the bluetooth settings on the phone.  I would also reload the app but that is because I had sore shins.  Then start the Connect app and work your way through the setup.

Thanks, I have done that numerous times already, to no avail.

The app hasn't been able to see my device once.  I can't go any further in setup than "looking for your device".

Bluetooth from the app is blind, it just can't see my device.  I've been troubleshooting over and over again for the best part of a week now.

  • If the bluetooth radio in the phone sees the Fenix then the hardware would seem to be OK.  Next stop for me would be to make sure the Fenix is in pairing mode, making itself visible, and that the app is looking for a partner.  The Fenix exits pairing mode quite quickly IMO.  Awkwardly so.  I wish I had a better memory of what I did.  I just checked my Samsung S10 and the phone Bluetooth settings page does NOT admit the Marq exists and it is not even available to pair with.  This in spite of the fact that the watch IS connected to the phone via bluetooth.

  • I have three Fenix watches paired to my S10+, all via the app, and none are included in my Bluetooth device list. This is how it should be, as far as I know.

My Stryd footpods are the same, paired through the app and not listed as paired in the Bluetooth devices list.
