Hello all,
This has already been mentioned in other posts but since I contacted Garmin to make this suggestion I thought I'd leave a note here.µ
In one of the recent important updates, ClimbPro feature has changed a little bit :
- the detection of climbs has been raised, so that shorter and lower climbs are now detected for running activities.
- a sensitivity setting has been added to bike activities, to have ClimbPro detect only big climbs, only medium or big climbs, or all climbs.
This has made ClimbPro useless for an important part of trail runners. For example if you look at the GPX trace below :
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/34620457
There are clearly 5 big climbs, and 2 small.
ClimbPro will register the 19 (!!!) following in length & climb :
1. 5.40 km / 957 m
2. 1.11 km/ 172 m
3. 0.96 km / 63 m
4. 2.65 km / 193 m
5. 3.35 km / 309 m
6. 2.63 km / 204 m
7. 0.22 km / 8 m
8. 3.55 km / 559 m
9. 0.28 km / 5 m
10. 0.36 km / 9 m
11. 0.78 km / 21 m
12. 0.20 km / 12 m
13. 3.21 km / 548 m
14. 1.35 km / 272 m
15. 2.69 km / 672 m
16. 0.78 km / 166 m
17. 0.34 km / 31 m
18. 0.18 km / 8 m
19. 0.08 km / 10 m
As you can see, some sections (I highlighted in red) are totally irrelevant for this type of activity (mountain trail running), with main climbs splitted in multiple sections and some of them listed as climbs while they are close to flat and shouldn't be identified as such.
So it would be quite helpful if the possibility to display only "hard" climbs, as it was implemented on bike activities, was ported to running activities as well. And even better, if short downhill scections (shorter than 25 or 50 meters for example) didn't split the climbs into multiple screens.
