Fenix 6S Pro charging problem

I got my fenix 6s pro last Tuesday and was able to get it charged and set up with no problems.  This morning, almost a week after its initial full charge, I saw that the battery had 15 hours left and tried charging it.  It would not charge.  The Google machine told me first to let it charge for an hour even if it said it wasn't charging.  After about 1.5 hours, I decided to try other suggestions.  Next it said to try cleaning the charging heads on the watch and the cord with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.  That didn't help.  It said I should try a soft restart by holding the light button until the watch turned off, then turn it back on.  That didn't work.  I was also suggested to try connecting to Garmin Express via my computer and update the software.  The computer does not recognize the Garmin when it is plugged in.  I think there is an issue with the watch.  I tried using the same cable with my husband's Gamin Instinct and it worked fine for his watch.  I was able to charge it and it immediately connected to the computer.  Has anyone else had this problem and successfully fixed it?

Thank you!

  • Sounds like something maybe awry with the pins on the watch. If it were me and my new watch I'd honestly look at an RMA or replacement, depending on where you bought it. Best of luck with it

  • same issue here, but i got in when charging.

    this pin-charger-connection is suuuuuper unstable...

sometimes when i want i plug the charger in, it won‘t even start charging...

BUT when i go windsurfing or swimming, then everything is fine.

seems to me that, because of the design, those pins get dirty with skin-grease or sweat-grease and need regular cleaning...

  • Thank you for the responses.  I called Garmin support and she walked me through a few other things to try.  Unfortunately, they didn't work.  She then recommended trying to exchange it through Amazon (where I bought it) before replacing it through Garmin.

    Hi

Did you figure out your charging problem. I have a similar problem for my Fenix 6x that I bought a couple of months ago. Suddenly in does not charge.

  • Try calling Garmin support to see if they can help you.  I had to get a replacement.  The tech I spoke with said mine must have been defective.  I bought mine through Amazon and replaced through them as the tech said it's an easier process for me than replacing through Garmin.  I haven't had any issues with the new one.

  • Did you have to replace the watch as well but just the cable ?

  • The cable worked fine.  My husband also has a Garmin watch so I tried using his cable with my watch and my cable with his watch.  Neither worked on mine and both worked on his.  I returned everything to Amazon and got a brand new unopened box.

  • I do have 3 Garmin watches with the current charging connector. They sometimes refuse to charge. According to my observations, the cable is responsible for this. I'm using the cable of the first watch, so it is probably 2 or 3 years old (I don't remember when I bought the 5X). Previously, there were no problems at all. Now the watches sometimes don't charge. Disonnecting and turning the cable 180 degrees helps most of the time.

  • same problem with my watch and the refurbished replacement I just received today

  • I had charging issues with my 6X Pro Solar at one stage and found that the watch contacts were getting dirty, probably due to body sweat and oil, one contact was dis-coloured, not a brassy look.

I finished up using some dual cosmetic tips, like cotton buds but a tighter weave and used isopropyl alcohol and rubbed firmly over the 4 contacts and even the dull contact finished up looking brassy like the others.

I also use a silicon Anti Dust Plug Smart Watch Protective Cap, I added a fishing line loop that gets inserted through the band pin so keep the contacts from getting dirty.
