Fenix 6 Series - 9.92 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

UPDATE 6/4/20: We are currently investigating reports from beta testers regarding phone connection problems, or disconnects from sensors/headphones. We believe this was introduced in our 6.03 ANT/BLE software update for the Fenix 6/s/x Pro models. For those of you experiencing this issue, you can backdate to the previous ANT/BLE version 5.04 with the file in the attached folder. Unzip the file and place the GUP3293.GCD file in the Garmin\RemoteSW folder of your device. This issue only affects the Pro models.

Instructions for installation are available below the change log on each of the above pages.

9.92 Change Log Notes:

  • Added on-device sleep calculation (via added Sleep widget* (Menu > Widgets > Edit > +Add > Sleep). Requires Sensor Hub 7.04
  • Updated the UI for performance, Heart Rate, Training Status, Intensity minutes and Floors Climbed widgets. These are only minor visual changes
  • Fixed an issue with Powerbeats Pro audio control.
  • Fixed an issue where alarm labels were not being translated.

*On-device sleep calculations have now been added.  This information can only be viewed via the Sleep widget. Please follow included instructions above to add the widget. On-device sleep calculations can be viewed in Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Connect Web when using beta software 9.92 and above.  A few notes concerning on-device sleep and how it is viewed in GCM and GC-Web:

  • The sleep cycle doughnut around the total hours of sleep in GC-Web does not currently match GCM or your watch.

  • When looking at your sleep data in GCM or GC-Web, if REM sleep shows --, and your total sleep time does not match your watch, this means the old sleep data calculations are being shown.  It's an indication on device sleep has not yet been uploaded.  Please be patient and allow the data to upload.

Current beta peripheral software version numbers below. New versions are indicated in red.

GPS: 4.40
Sensor Hub: 7.04* (required for new Sleep tracking)
ANT/BLE/BT (Pro models)6.03
ANT/BLE (non-Pro models): 2.11
Wi-Fi (Pro models only): 2.60

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the Fenix 6 Series you have in the subject line.

  • Not seeing any phone/sensor connectivity issues either.

  • over the last few days since the beta install it's been hovering around 0.415%. Best it's been since v8. This includes essentially GPS related activity every day to every other day and my PulseOx is off.

Thank you very much for this - the disconnects on my fenix 6x Pro were driving me nuts!

  • No issues here with Fenix 6X Pro using ANT/BLE/BT (Pro models)6.03, tested HRM-Tri (ANT), HRM-Swim (ANT) and JBL Wireless Headphones (BLE).

  • Not really, I posted an idea in Garmin website to implement manual nap tracking. If automatic nap tracking is too hard to be made, at least manual napping would be great, to increase the total sleep time.

I switched from Fitbit to Garmin a few months ago (I'd been a Fitbit user for years). Garmin's sleep monitoring has never been close to Garmin's. It was always wrong (start time and end time), and I could get up and walk around during the night and it still wouldn't register that I was awake. So far (three days in), the updated Garmin sleep widget is doing a lot better. The jury is still out though, need longer.

  • Woke up 0606, got up with some in-house walking, laid down with iPad, awake, but even after 30 minutes of wake-time the Sleep-widget says I am sleeping.

Got up, and have been walking around for 10 minutes but according to F6Pro I am still "Sleeping".

So the Sleep-tracker still might need some fine tuning.

  • Update on sleep tracking - some strange behavior on GCM related to sleep

In the main screen of MyDay it shows me 8h20m

when i go into further details it shows me the same as on the watch widget for total 7.59, and the numbers for each stage are the same like on MyDay view. Just the total has different numbers in those 2 views

As for the reality of the recorded data - I would say it's almost good and as expected - maybe a few too many awake minutes in the middle of the night

  • Having removed the new sleep widget I'm sorry to report that there is no improvement to sleep tracking when sleep is interrupted.

Last night I went to bed before 21:00. I awoke at 02:00 with muscle aches and pains that required almost two hours of massage and stretching. Then I went back to bed and slept solidly till 07:30ish.

Oura Ring has picked up all the signals correctly. Fenix 6X terminated sleep at 02:00 and that's it. I manually corrected sleep end time to 07:30 and now I have a "light sleep" flat line (once again) that ignores the waking hours or anything of accuracy since.

This is rubbish. Far worse than it used to be.
