Fenix 6X pro for Gliding

Hi all,

I want to buy a Garmin Fénix 6X pro mainly for use in a glider to track my flights.

I want to be able to review flights afterwards.

Can I do this with a Fénix 6X pro? If yes, how does it work? Any additional software recommended / needed?

I'm aware of the D2 Watches, but they don't exist yet in the large display version (280x280; 1.,4inch)

Thank for any help Wink

  • Sure, you can do it. Make a new activity called "Glide" or something, from a copy of the Track Me activity. Add whatever datafields you want - elevation, ascent/descent, map, distance, speed, vertical speed, etc.

MAke sure auto-calibration for altitude during activity is turned off, otherwise it'll continually try to reset your altitude to the ground-level elevation under wherever you're gliding. Recommend doing a manual elevation calibration just prior to the activity. I like to have datafields for both Elevation and GPS elevation, so that I've got elevation readings from both the barometer and the GPS, just in case there's any discrepancy I can decide which one is more accurate.

  • Thanks! I never owned a Garmin before so I had no clue. Thanks for the tip of the manual calibration Thumbsup
