Certain activities not syncing

I have had an unusual issue several times with the Fenix 6.

When I walk my dog, the heart rate and steps for that activity are not synced to Garmin Connect.

This is not an activity that I initiate with the watch, I'm just wearing it during the walk, but nothing syncs.

Very strange. Anyone else experience similar?

  • You won't see an activity saved to Garmin Connect if you don't start recording one. The best you can hope for is that Move IQ identifies your walk as a walk and places a marker for it in your daily timeline. The walk might be listed, but without useful stats included. That assumes that Move IQ is enabled and has not become automagically disabled.

But Move IQ requires 10+ minutes of recognisable motion in order to include an entry. If the dog walk is on lead with lots of stop/start sniffing etc then I wouldn't expect to see anything registered.

  • Thanks for your response. This is not a work out or activity I’m starting with the watch. I am simply walking my dog while wearing the watch. Bizarrely, none of the steps or heart rate data from that walk is synced to connect, even though it shows normally in the watch itself.

HR from the rest of the day before and after shows normally.

  • OK. That sounds very odd. I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe reboot the watch. That can someone's help with weird things going on. If you're syncing with Garmin Connect Mobile you might also try removing the watch from the app and then repairing again.

  • I am wondering if it has something to do with move IQ. I have turned that off and we’ll see what happens.

  • I've had Move IQ disabled for several weeks. I found it unreliable and it would misname activities - e.g. jogging/running outdoors and on a treadmill was identified as elliptical training. I haven't used an elliptical trainer for 20 years. Dog walk, due to intermittent pace, sometimes not identified at all, so better to just have clean data for heart rate, steps, stress, body battery rather than a mess of woolly nonsense.
