adding a route without garmin express

I'd like to add route to my garmin 6x. Say I have some gpx file. So I will log into garmin connect import (or create new here) route, click sent to device, which will open garmin express and upload it.

I find this process VERY problematic:

1. I have to take down my watch just to do this trivial task and connect it to the pc.

2. I the watches are fully charged, I'm crippling its battery

3. if someone is not windows user, it is a) completely impossible to do b) he has to reboot into windows box.

I find all of it quite redundant considering, that watches itself are connected via wifi, which is even superior connection to usb, and even if it's not, it should be just fine to transfer 20kb of data or so.

Question: is there a way to upload tracks without having to wear off watches/crippling battery/rebooting into windows?

You can send a Course/Route to any Bluetooth device using Garmin Connect Mobile.

No.If you have MacOS you install Android File Transfer to access the watch

Comment on #2 - does keeping the watch plugged in really cripple the battery? My understanding was modern batteries are "smart" enough to prevent overcharging.

a) I really don't know, however I'd doubt so as there would have to be some way how to open the circuit. b) considering, that when I did so with my phone, it's battery life went down, I'd think it is the same c) there are even recommendation not to charge your phone to 100, but namely d) point's 1 and 3 are way, way more bothering, than knowing my battery will loose some % over years of doing so, because I WILL LOSE some minutes of my life doing this nonsense (considering it's 2020, and my watches can read text messages from my phone over bluetooth and route is nothing less than just a little bit bigger text)

yes, you are correct. I wrote my statement incorrectly: I'm a linux user and wrote "if someone is not windows user" instead "if someone is linux user." Thanks for adding that for potential MacOS readers. Linux users can use garmin connect mobile as eezytiger advised, it's just one click more on different device, but that is painless compared to attaching phone to pc/rebooting.

I am a Linux user and no problem with importing or creating courses on GC Web, just choose the "Send to device" button next to the course when it's ready.

It will gives you a message that the page is not available, it does not matter. You can start a wifi sync and your course will appear on your watch when it's done.

ok, great! Where is wifi sync button? Maybe I'm overlooking something, I'm still very new in this world...

It's on the watch itself. Long press the middle left button and then scroll up or down till you get to Wi-Fi. It's a lot of clicks till you get there. Enter that menu item and scroll to the Wi-Fi sync option.

Long press the Light button it will show you the control menu, select the Sync icon and you can choose whether you want to sync via Bluetooth or Wifi by the Down button.

You can also assign a hot key for the Wifi sync in the System -> Hot Keys menu.
