Purchase a FENIX 6 Pro yes or no? WHR Issues Please Advice

Hello Everyone,

I purchased but not yet recieved a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. Based on a lot of functionnality that I wanted to switch from an apple watch S5 because I was a lot piss of the poor battery quality.

Then I read on the internet a little too late that the WHR was a nightmare and almost not usable. Most of the reviewer on the internet say that this watch is almost perfect and not mentionning any issues. Based on them this watch is almost perfect!  I also saw that there was a update of the sensor quite recently 5.06?

So my question is , what's the actual status? I don't really like to use Chest HR so I loved the optical sensor of the apple Watch but do you still recommand this watch or I should refuse my parcel. We are talking about a watch of almost 700 euros so.. if the WHR is not usable I won't use it...

Thanks in advance for your good advices.

  • I think the WHR is under normal conditions pretty good. They are still tweaking it. Is it the best. Probably not. I wouldn't buy a Fenix 6 again for other reasons ( over all quality, screen, buggy software). Is there a better alternative? Not yet. But Polar is getting close with the Grit X. First reviews look pretty good.

  • My recommendation is get the 5x Plus.  I have both that and the 6x Pro Solar, WHR on the 5 is rock solid.  The 6, not so much.  I'm waiting for the 7...

  • Keep it. It's a great (the best?) fitness watch, with some of smartwatch functionalities. If you're looking for a smartwatch (with some fitness functions) go back to Apple Watch - it's the best smartwatch ever :)

OHR is absolutely useless on Fenix 6 Pro, works for some, does not work for most of the folks (or they're not aware). For me, my idle HR is 10BPM too high, my high is 40-50BPM too low (I was soooo sad when forgot  my hrm-run with me). I think still OHR is never going to be precise, always use a chest strap.

  • Listen, stop reading and LISTENING to these people that complain. Is the OHR perfect? No but what OHR for the wrist is? If you want an accurate depiction of your HR during an activity, then you have to wear a Chest HR monitor. Half these people that complain aren’t even wearing the watch the way Garmin recommends it to be worn. They (Garmin) are always coming out with updates in an attempt to improve, even as late as last week during one of the Beta’s.

If you’re spending g $700 for just OHR, then you’ll be disappointed. If you’re spending $700 because the Fenix 6 can do MANY things that most watches CAN’T do, then it’s money well spent.

  • he only thing Garmin can do better than Apple is keep it charged. everything else he does is worse, or much worse
  • My wrist HR is almost perfekt when jogging och cycling (on road)

I use 6X Sapphire, put it like a cm or two higher on my wrist (then what I normaly use when not running/cycle) and then tighten it

I use my HRM-Run sometimes and WHR sometimes and they show right HR compared to what I feel.

  • No I wanted this watch for many reasons like the better battery , the sensors, the Stress Meter, Body Battery , ... all those features that a Apple watch don't have.

I don't expect that OHR need to be the same as chest strap but at least I want it to be like the AW5 or AW3 at least. Most of the people said that it's almost 30% more or I also saw that sometimes the watch cannot go higher than 130BPM. That's my fear. I don't need the huge accurate HR Sensor but at least sometimes usefull. If I cannot do HIIT with it because I took 2 min to decrease, ... it's not for me :)

But if I should base my choice on all reviews that I found on the internet, it's clearly a good pruchase.. but not on forums.. because there is a lot of complains.

  • Polar is getting close with the Grit X. First reviews look pretty good.

No ANT+ connectivity, only BT - that's a show stopper for me.

  • Using OHR for anything other than 24x7 is useless. A chest strap is an essential for any activity. With a HRMRUN you also get a lot of useful running metrics on top.

I was annoyed at Garmin over the 5 plus series, sold my watch and tried some competitors. None came close to my needs so had to suck in my pride and get a 6 pro. OHR for 24x7 and the occasional activity is absolutely rock solid for me but the best purchase I ever made was a HRM-RUN and it's the first thing I'd replace if it broke. You get HRV data and far better accuracy than any wrist OHR could EVER hope to achieve

BTW Forums will always have lots of complaints because very rarely do people feel the need to post random posts of "Happy with <product> today". Forums are full of complaints because that's where people look for answers.
