Fenix 6 Pro - Wifi Issues (FW: 8.10)

I don't seem to be able to connect to my home Wifi using my Fenix 6 PRO. The connection test fails, and the sync returns error 0105.

My connection has a WPA2-PSK-CCMP password and is a 2.4GHZ. I only seem to be able to connect to open networks. Anyone else has the same issue?

I have also tried to setup a hotspot with my phone with the same result.

This seems to be a software issue.

  • I get the similar issue, password fails despite being correct

  • I think everyone here has the same problem. Unfortunately, this is not fixed. I will not connect to various routers at home, or to a router at work, or to a hotspot on a mobile phone ...

Same. This seems to work only on open networks. As soon as I enable a password it doesn't work anymore. However messing with my router settings I was able to connect at least two times (over like a thousand tries) with the password on, but not reliably.

  • Just checked and mine is connecting fine to my WiFi. There’s been some quite extensive discussions about this so if you haven’t already done so you might want to have a read of some of them. Couple of pointers:

SSID must be open not hidden.

If you have a network that broadcasts on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz with the same name create a separate one for the 2.4GHz and make sure you are using that.

If I want to create a hotspot using my iPhone I have to make sure it is connecting to my 2.4GHz network.

Do contact Garmin Support as it is of course possible there might be a problem with your watch but invariably it’s come down to settings on individual routers.

Thanks for the tip! I have tried all of them: I have a separate connection for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz, SSID is open and I don't think that it's an hardware issue since it works on open networks... Are you on 8.10?

  • I am currently on 8.78 but I have had no issues on any version.

This also happens to me using my phone as hotspot! Very very weird.

After much testing, I've found the solution -- here's hoping I save someone else time and much annoyance:

Firstly, make sure you're connecting only to 2.4Ghz as it doesn't support 5 ...  make sure you force this as some newer routers have a "smart connect mode" and may be actively trying to connect you to 5Gz.

And here's the kicker now:  It only accepts password lengths of 8 characters.   Yup, you read right.  Didn't work for me with completely open, and with my regular passwords of 24 characters .. kept telling me incorrect password even though I knew it was right.

Got me thinking ... WPA enforces 8 .. but what if coding was wrong (big surprise) and they actually accepted MAX 8 characters .. Well, that seems to be it.  Didn't test if < 8 works .. but anyway .. have fun.

    Cheers

p.s: obviously 8 character passwords suck .. so I activated my previously de-activated GUEST network and made this one just for the Fenix (garmin) exclusively.  Only 8 characters max but who cares on guest wifi network, not much exposed.

  • Weird - I have a 15 character password but it's in the three word format - you using non-alphanumerics?
