Training Status: NO STATUS?

So, yesterday I woke up.. and the training status field on Garmin Connect vanished!  Checked my watch, and got the message "No Status".

I use the 6s, and an EDGE 530 on my bike.  Lately, I have not been running much..  BUT, I have been biking every other day.  I have been working on adding to my low and high HR zones too.  So, this morning I went for a nice ride, thinking when I got back and synced it would change?!  Nope.  Still says the same thing?

Why is this?  Is this ONLY for running?  and.. if thats the case (which makes no sense) then why does it get updated with my biking?  It always updates after my rides.  So, I am confused as to why all of the sudden this has stopped working?

Thoughts?    No matter which device I use.. (EDGE or the 6s.. both say the same thing now).

Please help.

Thank you!

T

  • P.S.  It does say to run outside twice to "see status".  But.. this again makes no sense.  Why all of the sudden would I need to run to see status?  What if I am not a "runner" and I just bike?  There must be something wrong here. ?

  • You need workouts with VO2 max, to get the training status. So you need either to run with your Fenix or to have a power meter on your bike, to have cycling VO2 max.

kiridmi is spot on here. It needs your VO2max by either running or cycling with a power meter.

  • Ah!  Okay.  This makes sense.  Yep, I dont have a power meter for the bike.. so, looks like running with the watch is the only way.   Do we know, how often will I need to run to keep this active?  It looks like I can go awhile?

Also, while I see that the status is not working right now..  it appears (correct me if I am wrong) that the data is still being updated from my rides (load scores).  So, does this mean that after I do a few runs outside, that this will all "snap back" to normal?  Or will I be loosing the data from the rides I am doing, while it says "no status"?

I'm not sure how long the status will continue to update without a VO2max reading.  Your cycling rides will still factor in once it resets, but it seems to "learn" your load score over again and needs about two weeks of training to readjust back to normal. It won't start back up where you left off in my experience.

  • Okay.  Well, I guess I will have to figure out a run and see.  The problem is.. COVID-19.  Where I live, there is a nice running path.. but, its flooded with people.. and too risky right now.  So, it's super hard to find a spot to run without being the in street, and I dont want to do that either.  Annoying.

I know Garmin sells the fancy power pedals for the bike.  Is there another, cheaper option I can get?  Spending money now is also not something I want to do.  Is there anyway to get the VO2 score with the watch on the bike?   It seems strange that this works with the watch with running..  yet, this cant work with the EDGE 530 on a bike?   I wonder what the difference is?

Running outdoors with people around right now does cause a problem. I never used a cycling power meter, but I'm sure others can recommend what works well if that's what you decide to do.

  • I just noticed my training status is gone also. I have a trainer with a power meter on it, but now that the weather is better I am almost solely biking outside (and I am not a runner). So training status cannot be updated with outdoor rides and no power meter?

Also, I have had several rides lately that have been VO2 max focused, but that hasn't changed the training status apparently?

  • I have been running outdoors for ten days and training status has not updated. I have been recovering from an injury and I did get a new 6X at the same time. I just read that HRV has to be turned on in the settings so I will try this

  • My training status has disappeared. I’ve had my Fenix 6 Pro for 6 months with no problems. I run about 3 times a week, outdoors. Then since the end of last week I had the ‘No status’ message saying I need to do 2 runs outdoors. I have done 3 since then! And I’m also not getting performance condition updates at the start of my runs like I used to.
