Partially bricked fenix 6x pro after update to 8.10

Hi, On thursday my fenix 6x pro performed a software update - i assume automatically and over BT as I've never setup wifi - at some point there was a prompt stating a failure due to software incompatibility (something like that I was on a work conference call at the time).

None of the sensor related functions on the watch now work. The watch returns the following firmware versions: GPS: 4.10 Wi-Fi: 2.60 CIQ: 3.1.7 BMX: 0.0.0 (!) WHR: 0.00.00 ANT/BLE/BT: 5.01 Sensor Hub: 0.00

It also reports v8.10 (c55f3da) Unit ID 3323412054 Serial No 634195004

I had never previously connected the device via Garmin express but have done so since. It does not show any updates necessary, which is a bit disappointing.

Last night I dragged down the beta 8.73 release and dropped the various files (including a sensor hub file) in the appropriate folders on the watch. Update completed and now shows 8.73 in the settings but no changes to the firmware numbers and same functionality as before.

Other than taking a hammer to the thing does anyone have any suggestions, please - the UK support line has a recorded message saying support is suspended until further notice.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Former Member, plug your watch in to your computer and delete any of the beta update files that may still be remaining on the watch. They could be in the GARMIN folder or in the RemoteSW folder. Once you have the files deleted unplug the watch and hold down the top left button until it shuts down then power it back on with the same button.

Once your watch is back on, plug it in to your computer and drag the firmware update files back to the watch. You may want to try updating them one by one to make sure your watch is installing the updates correctly.
