What is the most accurate GPS combination for Fenix 6 in the UK?

Had my Fenix 6 Pro for almost a week now and really impressed with it overall. Initially I started off with the default GPS + GLONASS for my running activities but the track isn't brilliant. Tried GPS + GALILEO last night and that was poor. I live in a suburb of the UK and was wanting the group's feelings on what works best for this watch (I would in the past use GPS only). I've tried searching but can't find a clear answer - far too many posts on the subject of GPS inaccuracies.

  • I live in Sweden and most of the time GPS+Galileo is on pair with GPS+GLONASS but never better. In bad conditions GPS+GLONASS seems to perform better.

I have a theory, but there is no proof that it is true for the watch; For Galileo to increase the accuracy it requires much longer time to find and lock satellites. I have an Android phone (Samsung S9) and the app GPSTest and it takes longer time to find and list Galileo satellites than GLONASS but it may depend on the technology in the phone rather than the satellite system itself.

  • GPS + GLONASS has been working well for me on the London/Essex border. This combination is almost on par with my Polar V800, which still holds the crown for best tracks, six years after release.

I was not impressed with GPS + Galileo and have not used it again following a dismal first test.

But, I don't think there is a clear answer. Satellites move around and some days, or times of day, will yield better results than others for the same combination of systems.

  • Here you can check in your location, when you will go outdoor to do an activity which satellite situation you will have.

Set your location, date and time, viewing angle and time window. After that go to "Sky Plot" page to see the situation.

You will se the satellite visibility changing every minutes... so I hope in the future watches will can use GPS, Galileo and Glonass together or GPS+Beidou that have more satellites the all the other constellation.
