At least I can get a GPS fix again after this update! Must be more going on than increasing the version number.

It's an attempt at a joke. Last version for GPS firmware was 2.80, so bumping the version to 4.01 according to C.sco did just that: +1.21 to the 2.80 = 4.01

Made now a run after the GPS Update 4.01

Instant Pace was pretty much spot on. no glitches and way to high "current" pace anymore - this feels correct for the first time. Also the Track itself looks more precise.
Lets hope that it was the update and no lucky Satellite situation.

Worst track ever today, GPS + Galileo 4.01 GPS Fw, 7.77 beta, 6X Solar.

Light green mixed to red is the actual gps track, blu is where track should have been...

To ensure you get the best possible GNSS location performance following a GPS firmware update, I believe this previously published official advice is still extant https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-5-plus-series/160062/applying-gps-firmware-updates---what-you-need-to-know

“After applying GPS software updates, for best results please allow the device to track GPS signals continuously for 15 minutes. This one-time process will allow the device to re-accumulate satellite information lost in the update process.”
