Fenix 6s / Garmin Connect App

I am wondering how often the watch is "talking" to my phone (syncing data) all day long when the phone is near by?  Is there a setting for this somewhere?  I was thinking it maybe nice to just set this for when I open the app it syncs the watch?  (save battery).   But, I cant seem to find any "auto sync" setting anywhere for this?

  • When you open the Garmin Connect app, then it syncs to the watch. I wish Garmin could add "auto sync" running on the background without open the app. Every morning I have to open the Connect app to let the app sync to the watch for getting the weather update. To me, it does not make any sense because the user could open the build-in weather app for checking the weather from the phone instead of the Garmin Connect app.

  • Interesting..  so, does this mean that the watch / phone are not constantly syncing all day long (assuming I am not launching the Garmin app?).   My only concern was battery drain.   For example I know when I go for a run or something like that, it automatically syncs to the watch when I get back home (I dont run with phone), so I assumed that its always "looking" for the phone draining battery?

  • I never, well rarely ever, close GCM. Can't say that I've ever noticed ant significant battery drain as a result on either iPhone X or watch.

  • I assume it's pretty frequent (every few seconds or so), because notifications come through pretty fast.

But the Bluetooth chipset is only up for a tiny fraction of a second to say "nothing to report" before powering down and going back to sleep. It is only when there is a lot of data to be transferred (eg. at the end of a run) that the Bluetooth needs to stay up longer.

  • If you rarely close the Connect app and set allow location access ALWAYS as Garmin recommended, then I am sure you drain the battery a lot on the iPhone, not confident how in the watch.

  • Disagree. I have plenty of battery left in the iPhone at the end of the day before I put it on charge overnight. Never had to recharge during the day yet.
