XC Skate Ski - cadence, power?

Anyone knows how to get cadence for XC skating on Fenix 6? Also, do you know why "Winter sports" in Garmin Connect web site have "Power"?

Best,

Marek

  • do you know why "Winter sports" in Garmin Connect web site have "Power"?

I heard that cyclocross is about to be included into the Winter Olympic Games, so pretty soon cycling power may well be associated with winter sports and maybe Garmin is planning ahead Slight smile

    Just kidding.

  • Still no resolution? I also have the pro strap and I can see power in my xc ski activity, but without a cadence. My friend has FR 935 and has a cadence on his activity tracked. Hm?

  • I also have this question. Although the later HRM-PRO has some functions for power with XC skiing, I see no reason why one shouldn´t be able to get cadence without this monitor. My old Fenix 3 gave me cadence on XC skiing. The watch itself should be able to detect the cadence. But so far I haven´t seen anywhere/way to add this metric (for the Fenix 6).

  • It's really confusing... I had HRM Run2 strap, and I had a ski dynamics statistics in XC classic and skate activities. When I upgraded the strap to HRM Tri, this additional stats on these activities are missing now (in running activities all additional stats are same).

  • But, isn't that what is pointed out in DCRainMaker article? What I can't understand is why the cadence metric is completely obsolete with Fenix 6 (and maybe Fenix 5?) I'm starting to suspect that this is purely to force users to buy said belt to regain this metric...? ;)

  • Nope. DCR is talking about Power measurements in Ski activities that are available only with HRM Pro strap . I have talked about classic metrics as cadence, step length etc.

With cheaper strap HRM Run2 I had these stats in all Ski(classic and skate) activities, but with better strap (HRM Tri should have same HW/functions as Run2 + memory for data while swimming and strap has no connection to device) these stats are gone in Ski activities (in running activities the stats are the same with both straps).. There is a huge inconsistency between Garming gadgets.

Another example. I have Edge 530 with speed and cadence sensor. I have connected both sensors to Fenix 6 and Edge device. While I record the MTB activity with Fenix device, I can see the status of speed sensor (ie. battery status and presence of this sensor) in activity (in Connect app). But when I record MTB activity with Edge, there are no mention about any sensor in activity log in Connect app. Why this different behavior exits? Same as with the straps. The cheaper strap provide more information then more expensive or what? No, there is big game with customer to push the customer to get more expensive gadget for better functions (as power measurements only with PRO strap), but I suspect them these functions are included in all their gadgets (similar HW, same sensor in it = same/low cost production). The additional functions are suspended by their FW, and there is a problem to keep some consistency in development live cycle (ie. my example with HRM straps, it is a simple bug in strap FW or connect app or somewhere between :) ). It is only my humble point of view based on using Garmin devices for years... Anyway I love Gamrin "eco-system", but these bug are annoying.
