What's going on with the connection to my iPhone?

Getting a bit tired of how unreliable the connection is between my Fenix 6S and iPhone 11 Pro. I only pick up around 50% of my Smart Notifications. When I turn the Bluetooth off and on on both devices this seems to sort the problem. I keep both my watch and phone updated with the latest software but the reliability never seems to improve. Why is the connection so flaky? I'm sure this doesn't happen with Apple Watch.

  • I'm sure this doesn't happen with Apple Watch.

Obviously does as Apple have a Support document - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205025

There are any number of things than can affect the connectivity between your watch and iPhone. Unfortunately that makes it hard to determine where the problem lies. Have a look through the GCM iOS threads in the Apps & Software forum and see if there's any guidance there.

I have the same issue with my 11 Pro. The BT connection gets disconnected a few times per week. Sometimes it's an easy fix, sometimes I have to reinstall the connect app which is a pain and today I had to do a factory reset of the watch because it was not syncing. I am ready to throw this buggy watch at the wall. But damn it probably will survive. My last Garmin watch for sure.

I just contacted Garmin because it really goes on my nerves. I got this answer:

We are currently looking into this report with apple but sadly do not have a resolution right at this time.

Hope they find a solution soon.

  • This problem sometimes occurs if you have had another device linked to Garmin Connect on your phone, but have since removed it i.e. told Garmin Connect to forget it. If that was the case, then it can sometimes be fixed by removing the current device from Garmin Connect, uninstalling Garmin Connect and reinstalling. Re-pair your device afterwards.

Another thing that seems to help is to install the Garmin Connect IQ app. This seems to maintain its own connection to the device and keeps things more stable.

You can test your connection by repeatedly moving in and out of bluetooth range for different lengths of time. If all is well it should connect immediately when back in range.

    Other tips:

Avoid closing Garmin Connect by swiping it away in the app switcher. Just leave it running in the background. Same goes for Connect IQ.

If your apps on your iPhone are set to automatically update, Garmin Connect will close when it updates and it does not always connect automatically afterwards.

  • @D45H I will try these tips, thank you.
