Fenix 6X Intensity Minutes

Hello guys, i know this topic has been discussed before but haven't found any solution in any of the topics. I have been using a Fenix 3 and recently switched to a Fenix 6X.

It seems that the intensity minutes are calculated completely wrong.

On the beginning of the week with 0 intensity minutes and the settings for intensity set to Moderate= Zone 3 and Vigorous=Zone 5, after 1 workout the watch shows 249 minutes (41 moderate and 104 vigorous which it multiplies by 2).

Now the interesting part, as mentioned above the setting for Vigorous was set on Zone 5 which is above 166bpm , and in that workout i've only spend 16 minutes above 166 bpm and 50 minutes on zone 3 & 4 , which makes the intensity calculation = 50 + (16 x2 ) = 82 minutes compared to the 249 minutes showing on the watch.

Trying to figure out what's going on, i've noticed that the number of vigorous minutes (102) was the sum of all minutes spent in zones 2,3,4 & 5, which is completely wrong as the settings were set as mentioned above.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Thanks

Do you mind if I chime in? So you get intensity minutes without starting an activity? I got plenty for everyday activity on my 3HR but plain zero on my 6X - must relate to the faulty OHR.

  • I posted about problems with the zone based intensity minutes in one of the beta threads but unfortunately that turned into a discussion if the intention for zone based intensity minutes is right or wrong. Not if there were problems when calculating the time assuming the intention is right.

The problem I see is that there is no specification about the conditions that has to be met for time to count. How can we verify the functionality without that? There is an old one with "10 consecutive minutes" but that one is obviously not right. Time counts even if I don't spend 10 consecutive minutes in one zone (or above) but still there is a condition since I can't sum time in zones on a run with no pauses (moving time same as total time).

With your experience there seems to be even more problems with the algorithm.

  • With the latest FW F6 can use HR zones to calculate intensity minutes. With that you are required to start an activity to get intensity minutes. The alternative is to use the old method used with F3 that used the all day movement (without HR) and activities with HR.

This setting can be found in Garmin Connect Web (not sure about GCM). Click on your device in the upper right, select device settings and activity tracking. You will find the following setting:

  • No i dont get intensity minutes without starting an activity. All of the above are displayed on the watch after the activity is stopped, it just calculates it wrong.

  • Tobias that is exactly what i'm using, the HR Zones specified for moderate and vigorous intensity, but it still calculates it wrong.

  • Tobias that is exactly what i'm using, the HR Zones specified for moderate and vigorous intensity, but it still calculates it wrong.

Are you sure that the settings from Garmin Connect Web is synced to the watch and that it is the correct watch.

  • 100% sure my friend ! i've done it through the Connect App, the to double check i've logged in Garmin Connect Web and the settings were exactly the same , synced it again but still the same  readings.
