Sick and tired of altimeter drift and floors count messed up...fixes?

So i manually calibrated the 6X using GPS. Did a force reset (hold 30sec power while connected to power source, then release and press again to start).
Apparently the 6X does not need phone GPS to function/calibrate, even in autocalibration mode.

Watch fixes on a plausible altitude (checked with google earth drop pin), everything good for one day.
Next day (even with altitude value ok) i get weirdness 2 floors climbed when i never did.
Then all of sudden i am 70m higher apparently than before, even though i am sitting in the exact spot (outdoors) i used to calibrate the previous day.

Been spending a whole week re-calibrating, experiencing weird drifts and floors appearing out of nowhere.
With the help of support i entered engineering mode and checked sensor data and they said it's fine.

Tried DEM calibration as well at some point, even calibrated it once with GPS and then turned OFF autocalibration when not in workout, etc..

What's going on?!

  • Floors and altitudes are very probably not calculated together. Floor must be measured from the accelerometer, not from the altitude. Otherwise you will get floors added when you take an elevator. Or drive to a higher location. So I think the watch is trying to figure out when you are actually walking up. It can't be perfect. I'm surely not expecting something perfect for that.

For the altitude, it's using the air pressure. A change of pressure can mean you are going up or down, but also that the weather is changing. That's why the altimeter has 3 modes, auto, barometer, altimeter. You should keep it in auto. Then the watch is trying to guess if you are moving or if the pressure change is coming from the weather. It can't be always right. That's why all barometric watches will sometimes use the GPS to recalibrate themselves. Otherwise, it's impossible to have a reliable altitude. The watch will do that during workouts, but I have no idea if it's trying to do it the rest of the time. So if you are not recording workouts, the altitude could change for wrong reasons.

The altitude I see at my home is slightly changing for those reasons. I don't expect it to be perfect all the time, especially as I never calibrate it manually.

  • the barometer has 3 modes, not the altimeter. i never touched the baro. it is in auto mode.

  • Sorry, my mistake. But that's what I was mentioning, and the way it's set is the best one I think. But it still won't make it reliable all the time. There will be errors, between recalibrations.

  • If the altimeter is correct except for when it re-calibrates itself, why not just turn off auto-calibration and stick with manual calibrations only?

  • ok, so now in the morning after i woke up i had 1 floor up and 1 floor down, which is obviously bull. Unless i levitate up and down the building during my sleep....Altitude remained kind of the same, way off that is..by 50+ meters.
after each manual calibration using GPS, in open field, it settles around 70-80m, which is pretty much correct. Then after a day or so, it decides to go up (always up) to 120-140m, without me doing anything.

the only time it worked ok was out of the box, when the altitude was WAY off, it counted floors perfectly for days.
then for some reason i said, let me calibrate the altitude so the widget shows at least the right values, From that point the mess started, both in altitude drift and floors.

it sucks big time that we can't see WHEN exactly the floor values were recorded, so we can at least edit/delete them if they're incorrect. We can only edit the floor target per day....

I’m discovered this problem with my altimeter and barometer 4 days ago when I’m wake up and start walking in my room elevation change 10 feet from 177 to 187 and as well outside I see difference shows 10 feet higher before altimeter on the biggest hill in my area shows 203 feet and this was correct elevation now show 10/11 feet higher 213/214 feet reset watch not help to fix this problem after reset to manufacture settings altimeter show elevation - 513 before I’m will setup altimeter manual to correct elevation and barometer it’s not stable like before

  • If you turn a building ventilator on and of without proper ways for fresh air to come in you wil raise about 20 meters in height.

When i walk in to the clean room at my work ( which is always on overpressure ) i drop about 50 meters and run 5 stairs down :-)

  • A 10 feet difference in altitude from a barometric altimeter in a 90gr watch is nothing in my opinion. There will be little errors of course, just like for GPS.

Before working good everything was fine every day for 2 months so why now it’s working different every day for two months show me correct and now changes this is not normal before watch not working like that
