Garmin fenix 6s sapphire lifespan

Hi,

I am thinking of buying the Garmin 6s sapphire, I wonder, how many years on average would a Garmin fenix 6s sapphire last given that you dont drop it or do really stupid things with it?

I use it solely for running. How many years would the watch last before it would not work anymore?

  • watches... so this is a "bad forum" for you to consider. No one will come to this forum to write: I LOVE GARMIN AND MY WATCH! SEE YOU ALL :)

  • So my final question, will the 6S survive more then the Fitbit watch?

Absolutely. These watches are extremely rugged.

There's never any guarantee that electronic components won't fail - speaking in terms of electronics devices in general, LED's do burn out sometimes, batteries do fail early sometimes, screens get dead pixels sometimes, etc. etc. But the electronics are incredibly well-protected in the Fenix series... think Casio G-Shock. Fitbits are a toy by comparison.

So while there's no guarantee that your watch will never break, the Fenix series has about the best chance out of any watch of surviving the longest. Fitbits were designed for suburban-dwellers to measure their steps on their morning power-walk to the local coffee shop; Fenix's were designed for mountaineering. 99% of Fenix users primarily use them for running, so we often forget that at their core they're a serious climbing/expedition watch... that also has running features ;)

Lol, it's a multi-sport watch and mountaineering is one of the options, just like (trail)running...

  • Basically splitting hairs here. You could say the same thing about the 945, because it does basically the same stuff as the Fenix, software-wise. The Fenix took the 945 multi-sport watch, and ruggedized it for mountaineering/climbing.

We can argue semantics about what kind of watch to call the Fenix all day, but it doesn't change my point that the Fenix is probably the most rugged activity tracker on the market.

    That's something I can confirm ;)

  • I literally smacked and drug the F6 sapphire across the corner of a metal cabinet at work the day I purchased it. No damage....which was the exact factor in deciding between the sapphire and the pro. Not saying the Gorilla glass won’t hold up as well but if your gonna drop that much cash on a watch, why not buy peace of mind as well?

I wanted to point out. I want to buy the Garmin Fenix 6s Sapphire solely for running. I dont use the heart rate sensor. I sometimes run with gps and sometimes without. I just like to wear something on my wrist, otherwise I feel so "naked". I have relatively small wrists for a 21 year old men. So how long could the battery last if I just use it to have the time on my wrist without heart rate and GPS? If I switch off the watch when not using it, does the battery drain?

  • Doesn't last very long (maybe a few years) even if you take excellent care of a Garmin.  The charging system is not the best technology.  Mine is no longer working and after waiting for a replacement charger to be sent to me, I was informed that they are out of stock and are no longer in production.  How do you use a Garmin watch that can't be charged?

  • Is it a Fenix 3? I'm pretty sure everything they've made after Fenix 3 is still available.

I agree that the charging port is probably the weakest link in these watches. They really need to address that on future models. I can already tell that my F6X and my Instinct both have much "touchier" charging connections that they used to, and I'm betting that will be the first thing to quit working completely eventually.

  • Yes, They are not making replacement parts for the Fenix 3hr.  For the price, I would expect to be able to use my watch longer than 3 years!
