Fenix 6 very inaccurate for indoor sports

I have Fenix 6s and indoor sports are a big disappoitment for me. I had a vivoactive and there was a distance quite accurate - it was based on steps maybe, I dont know. But Fenix 6s are horrible for indoor sports (the distance is a joke and there is even no record of total number of steps) - Garmin should do something about that. These watches are quite expensive and the indoor running activities such as tennis, basket or football are very popular. I tried everything - new activity, cardio etc., but nothing works...

  • It is not inaccurate, it is more likely wanted by them Expressionless if you use sports+ app in connect iq for example everything is saved and recorded as you explained for the vivoactive.

The only indoor distance which is accurate is running, but just of you are really running..... Small and varying stride length is not working at all. I know it.... Tried it for badminton. Have to use my old vivoactive hr for that or the sports+ app. The pre installed apps seems to have a filter integrated which just delete a lot data for indoor sports. Have a look at hr and movement recognition. This also is just a joke with the pre installed apps.....

Had the same problem with the forerunner series, they also just worked with a connect iq app like sports+

I'm sure badminton can be a great cardio workout where HR and calories are important. One side of an official court is 22' X 20'.  You'll have a lot of side to side and lunge type movement, but not much "running".  Just out of curiosity, why is it important to know the total distance and how do you use that data?  The same with tennis or basketball.  I'm trying to think outside of the box and maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the point of knowing total distance in court type activities.

  • Is tennis a running sport?

A Pro tennis player run at best 2km for match.

On top of this GPS technology do not work well indoor.

Where did you get that the Fenix 6 was good to track indoor tennis or basketball honestly?

    I've never heard of it.

As i stated earlier, there will be lateral type movements along with some running.  But to answer your question, tennis is a "racquet" sport, not a running sport.  Is Gymnastics a running sport because the gymnast runs to the pummel horse?  Is an athlete performing a running sport when throwing a javelin or pole vaulting?  Just because some running is involved with different sporting activities, it doesn't classify them as running sports.  Anyway, regardless of how you classify it, it doesn't answer how this data would be used?  What useful information can be used knowing if you logged 1.7km or 2.4km during a tennis match.  I'm not trying to give you a hard time.  Maybe I'm overlooking the data's usefulness and that's why I'm asking.

When did I ever make that statement or anything remotely close to it?

  • Mate basically you bought the wrong watch.

Fenix Is not designed to track indoor tennis.

You're very confused.  I don't play tennis indoors or outdoors.  My question to those who do was what training benefit do they gain by recording distance?

  • You are confuse. My original post wasn't a response to you.

    Anyway

OP is whining about Garmin and the Fenix 6 not recording his indoor tennis which doesn't make any sense.

It is also clear that the distance run in tennis is a negligible data.

My apologies and my mistake.  I'm an idiot and glanced at your's and the OP's user names and thought it was the same person replying to me.

  • Actually, in my opinion that using the user id as a username is very confusing in a forum, especially when there similar user ids are involved in the same thread.

Probably not much we can do apart from that kindly asking our forum mates to use any, even anonymous, name instead the user id.
