Backcountry Ski App issue

I haven’t tried the BC skiing app yet (but will). As far as I understand you need to press the lap button to switch between climbing and going downhill. Auto pause just pauses the logging as you stop. It sounds like you missed to shift between climbing and going downhill.

• Yes, I had a great day nomatter the app does not work well, thanks. I switched between climbing and going downhill every time corectly. And even if I forget, finish time is just 23 minutes.. I think it is just downhill time and climbing time is missing

• But I switched between climbing and descending by pressing the button. I think that the climbing data get lost thanks to autopause, because my climbing speed was maybe too slow so that the watches thinks I was always pausing.

Probably you are correct. I don't have autopause turn on.

Check your Auto Pause settings. I don't know about the Backcountry Ski activity, because I haven't used it yet, but in the Mountain Biking activity you can adjust the Auto Pause to be either "When Stopped" or "Custom". Selecting "Custom" pauses the timer when your speed drops below a specified level.

When mountain biking, I must set the Auto Pause to "When Stopped", because if I set it to "Custom" the timer will often auto pause when I am still riding, because I am riding too slowly.

If possible, make sure your Auto Pause is set to "When Stopped".

Better still, turn autopause off.

Except I really like Auto Pause.

Auto-pause really doesn't work very well, though. Most people who use it report issues with having it pause when it shouldn't, and not un-pause when it should. I would like for my watch to auto-pause as well, but in practice it just hasn't worked well for me. I turned it off the 2nd day I owned my watch. As much as it's a pain to manually pause, it works way, way better doing it manually than letting the watch decide when to pause and un-pause... ESPECIALLY during activities where you move slowly and/or stop frequently. It probably works great for road biking, but not so great for climbing mountains on foot.

When I started using Auto Pause for mtn biking, I set it to "Custom" (i.e. specified auto pause threshold), and I had exactly the problems you are describing. It was worse than useless (because it failed to capture large segments of bike rides). However, after I changed it to "When Stopped", it has worked flawlessly ever since. I used Auto Pause (When Stopped) on my F3 for years, and I have been using it on my F6x for over 100 rides, and it has never failed to work exactly as expected.

If you have the self-discipline or attention span or whatever it is that is required to remember to push a button every time you stop and again every time you start, that's great. Personally, I can't get through an entire ride without forgetting to either start or stop my watch. That is just not an option for me. In any event, the Auto Pause works so well that I use it all the time.
