Wrist HR is trash - which firmware version still works?

Sorry if that has been described before in one of the numerous threads, but I couldn't find it.

On which firmware version the wrist HR still worked, and where can I download it, and how to install it and make it stick until the issue is resolved?

  • It's never going to be accurate for exercise use - just buy a HRM-Run. But for resting HR it should work just fine unless you have a really hairy arm.

I‘m not sure but I think before version 5.0 it worked fine, it worked on every fenix I owned great but right now it’s really bad

I do have HRM-Run, and I do use it for most activities and it works fine. But for "Cardio" activities for a cross-fit like training, it would constraint movement in various exercises, so I depend on the wrist HR... And then it's completely random. Shows me 80 when I jump, run or do some cardio drills. Shows me 170 when I'm resting or stretching (and can feel on my neck that my pulse is down to 70 or so)...

In September my HRM-Run battery ran out and I didn't notice for a couple of trainings, and then the HR was also completely random. 110 when running uphill; 160 when lightly running downhill...

I had a Fenix 3HR before, and didn't have such issues. The watch is tight and correctly worn above the wrist; it's not moving around.

  • Thanks. How do I download older versions? On www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=15031 I can only find the newest one.

Though, I had this issue already in September, and then I think it was version < 4.3.0.0. So I think it must be a different issue. (or really a hardware issue, since noticed this problem from the beginning when I bought the watch in September)

I checked my history and it seems that till 4.2 HM was working fine, 4.3 I’m not sure cause there I switched from biking to skiing and that did not work at all with 4.3. now I have 5.0 and with backcountry skiing I have an average HM of ~100, nearly no training effect and half the calories burned as usually....

this is my 5th fenix and I never had such issues
